UPDATE, NOV. 14, 3:59 P.M.: While Jenelle Hutcherson wasn't crowned this weekend, she wrote on her Facebook page that "history has been made." See her pose on stage in her handmade tux and swimsuit at the end of the post. Kristin Bopp was named Miss Long Beach.

ORIGINAL POST, NOV. 2., 3:33 P.M. Here she is . . . a beauty pageant contestant who's nothing like those leggy cookie-cutter chicks.

Next month, 25-year-old hair stylist Jenelle Hutcherson will be the first out lesbian to compete for the Miss Long Beach crown. Out in the 562 has great profile of the tattooed and spiky-haired contestant, who entered the pageant to "re-define the face of Long Beach," according to her Facebook page

Hutcherson was encouraged to take the leap by pageant director Justin Rudd, a client of hers at The Den Salon. The event is Sunday, and instead of a slinky dress and heels, she'll be wearing a homemade tuxedo, one that's "elegant with a metallic and punk-rock edge," she tells Out in the 562. For the swimsuit category, she'll don "Dr. Seuss-inspired board shorts with red and white strips" and a short tank top.

Her next quest is to enter the 2012 Miss California USA pageant. (Update: Hutcherson tells us that she has been accepted into the Miss California USA pageant and will be representing Downtown Long Beach on Jan. 6-8 in Palm Desert!) She has set up a donation box on her Facebook page to cover the costs of registration, wardrobe and travel. Hutcherson calls the endeavor "history in the making."

"Help me to represent diversity, and a message of equality," she writes. "To believe in oneself and to love who you are."

The process by which electric current passes through a material is termed electrical conduction, and its nature varies with that of the charged particles and the material through which they are travelling.

The heat produced would also help people stay warm in cold weather, enabling them to live in cooler climates. Fire also kept nocturnal predators at bay. Evidence of cooked food is found from 1.9 million years ago, although fire was probably not used in a controlled fashion until 400,000 years ago.

Clothing is a term that refers to a covering for the human body that is worn. The wearing of clothing is exclusively a human characteristic and is a feature of nearly all human societies. The amount and type of clothing worn depends on functional considerations (such as a need for warmth or protection from the elements) and social considerations.

I think its great that she wants to participate, but she doesn't look the part. Her bathing suit was hideous (she could have opted for a simple one piece or at least women's board shorts and a bikini top), and she should have worn a dress or a nice looking suit tailored for a woman. Just because she is gay doesn't mean she can't be feminine.

Unfortunatelyy a butch looking young women at this time isn't going to win Ms CA. Maybe it will happen when beastiality and petophelia are accepted as alternative lifestyles. Don't get me wrong, one day this will happen!

You cant be gay in Long Beach without tattoos, piercing, and spiked hair. Original. At the end of the day she/he/it is entering a pageant, the epitome of the objectification of women. It will be interesting to see how the other entrees will feel about it. Of course they wont say anything about it for fear of being seen as a "hater." Why not just allow men to enter the pageant?

Go Jenelle!  I am a high school friend of Allison's.  I think it is awesome!   You go girl!   I hope you win.   If I lived in CA, I would be there in person, to support you!!!!

Im very for open-ness and equality...but there is a lady-like component to these pageants that I dont think is going to be hit upon with her entry. The Miss-Ter Long Beach or California pageant would be appropriate. Openly gay is one thing, but the concept of altering the lady-like portions of the evening gown portion or swim suit portion just doesnt seem to fit the contest. Absolutely nothin against her being gay..just the altering of the sections of competition to fit her sexuality doesnt seem right to me or fair to the other competitors who are dressing as women in the MISS Long Beach or MISS California pagenat..just my straight opinion...

I'll bet she be grinning when it comes time for their wardrobe changes....

That huge grin comes from watchin' her competitors put on their swimsuits.

Not that she has to look the "part" but I definitely think she could have been styled a little better. Keep the masculine, punker edge but have the outfits be more flattering for her figure and coloring. I applaud Jennelle for her efforts and hope she will be and insipration for other girls.

I think that is your eventual winner, Kristin Bopp.

You gotta be kidding. She doesn't even look hot for a guy.

Wearing a tuxedo or refusing to wear a bikini doesn't make you a lesbian, therefore there's is nothing involving "altering of the sections of competition to fit her sexuality." It is straight women who feel pressured by the heterosexual culture to maintain a highly limiting and pathetic sense of what makes a woman "beautiful." And it is the fact that YOU, the judges, and most of the population are straight and have confined yourselves to heteronormative culture that makes the lot of you see anything unusual about a person who hasn't been pressured by HER (lesbian) culture to "look straight" or look ultra "feminine."

I personally think these pageants are degrading and the fact that she is showing her beauty without massive amounts of skin with a bikini or evening dress, more power to her. These things are all about what you wear and how you wear it unfortunately and that is where it all goes tits up. There is no need, however, to emphasize "MISS" or "Miss-Ter" pageants, we got your "straight" point.

No, my obsession with quinceañera shops is with how you gabachos think they're the devil's ceremony. Purely professional, mind you. Your obsession with gays/Mexicans/reason just shows que pendejo you are—and your Spanish hard-on betrays a supple lad from your past haha

That explains his obsession with quinceañera shops. Thanks!
