OC Pioneers Who Were Klan Members: George W. Cullen, Brea Schools Clerk

It's no surprise that many Klan members in Orange County were part of the educational system. From superintendents to school board members to trustees, those Kluckers wanted to do everything possible to ensure that White children weren't contaminated by their colored ilk--and that Mexis were educated to become field labor and nothing else.

We've highlighted a couple already (see the master list below), and will highlight more to come--but let's focus on one guy who spread white supremacy to kiddies AND teens: George W. Cullen.

Cullen was one of the rough-and-tumble settlers of Olinda, that old oil town waaaaaaay up there in North County. There are pictures of him on the web (can't post them here, alas), that show him to be one ornery man--type of person a city needs to make sure no blacks and few Mexis go inside city limits, you know?

A 1926 Orange County directory lists him as the clerk for Brea-Olinda High and the Olinda School District. Now, I'm not sure what clerks do other than file papers, or especially what their roles were back in the 1920s. Oh, and his son, George, Jr., was also Klan--awwwwww!

Tune in every Monday around 5 p.m. for the latest entry exposing Orange County city fathers who were Klan members!

Hmmm, coming up on 24 hrs and no links yet -- maybe Klavito is busy with his new duties, or maybe, just maybe he took a second look at his supposedly 'ornery' man looks more like a mild manner Jed Clampet.

Or maybe his new status makes him realize these guys may have living relatives, and that slander can be serious business.
