Claim: Man Faces Deportation For Possessing Souvenir Dodgers Bat

BadgePatch.jpg
A Facebook page has been set up to prevent the deportation of a 19-year-old man arrested by Santa Ana police for carrying a concealed weapon. The page was created in part by the Colectivo Tonantzin, a Costa Mesa-based activist group who has championed immigrant and day laborer causes since 2004. The page states the man, identified only as Michael, was pulled over by Santa Ana police more than a month ago and cited for driving without a license. That's not an arrestable offense, but during their search of Michael's vehicle, cops reportedly found a small Dodgers souvenir bat and promptly arrested him for possessing a concealed weapon (Angels' fans much?)

The page states Michael, who is undocumented, has until today to post bond or he faces deportation. "Michael is eager to be reunited with his family and is worried that he will not be there for the birth of his child, who will be born this week," the Facebook page reads. "With many people's small contributions, we can help Michael stay with his baby, wife, friends, and family and help him have a chance at a fair trial. Please help pass this story along to others who may be able to help."

Supporters are asking for donations to help the undocumented man's family, who have managed to raise $2,100 but need $400 more to allow him to stay in the country. We're putting in a request for comment by the Santa Ana Police Department. Stay tuned...

Question: If you are a State of California Licenced and authorized Security agent through the Department of Consumer Affairs and the police pull you over does that give you jurisdiction over the local county police, I would think so because I had this happen to me and the cop that stopped me and I told this too backed up a few steps after I identified myself. The company that I used to work for went out of business after it was raided by the FBI in 2009.

There is no information here or on facebook on "who this person is"

Why donante one dollar?

There is nothing here to say that this is not a front for the KKK to raise money for their yearly tailgate party.

Driving without a license should be an arrestable offense. This is a very lame story.Time for a facebook page against this.

You know guys, we live in a democracy. You could lobby your congress-chola to introduce legislation running something along the lines of 'everyone gets in if they don't have a police record, and can stay if they don't commit any serious crime within five years of entry' (for example. I doubt such legislation would get through, but at least it would be more honest than all these amnesties and pseudo-amnesties etc.

He is under threat of deportation for being in the country illegally. That's all there is to it.

Who keeps bats hidden in their car?  3 months after the season ended?  If the guy looks like a responsible law abiding citizen, he probably could have gotten away with.

I remember in HS, the cops actually came to our school during junior/senior wars and handed out newsletters of what they were considering to be weapons - believe it or not, bats of any size, broom handles, etc....  turns out another school had a kid put in coma for going after the another kid.

Maybe he should not of been driving if does not have a License? Why is it that Illegals do not feel they need to Follow the Rules?Because they Broke the Law to get Here, Its OK to continue to Break the Laws while Here?My Bleeding Heart Goes out to the Legal Citizens of California, We have to Foot the Bill for these Illegals while they Take full Advantage of Our System and Continue to Break Our Laws...

FishWithoutBicycle

You can harp on the fact that this man is an "illegal immigrant" and a "lawbreaker" til the end of time, but it's still BS that he was arrested under the pretense that a SOUVENIR baseball bat counts as a concealed weapon...

Steve

Sorry Gustavo. Now that you are editor, you can shove illegal alien stories down our throats, but that won't change the reality that they are nothing but fucking criminals who should have something done to them that is a lot worse than deportation.

BuhBYE!

haha...laughable.  THey cant post the bond amount?!?  How does he expect to raise a child?  Buh-Bye!!!!!

Is his wife here illegally too??  If she is, send HER back before she has her kid!

So this man has broken two of our laws, at least: entering our country illegally and driving without a license. Why is he someone we should be interested in paying for to make sure he stays here and breaks more of our laws?

The KKK is having a tailgate party? Where do I sign up? I can bring Pepe on a leash and show him off as my bitch.

Steve

Does it really matter that much? True, you can make a weapon out of almost anything. But aren't you tired of illegal aliens (yes, that's what they are, like it or not) taking advantage of this country?

Stop viewing this situation with logic.  You're going to ruin Gustavo's day.

But the cops are criminals too Injainjuneer, they carry weapons on thier sides and there is a cover story about how the cops are breaking the very laws that thay are sworn to uphold, the cops in Santa Ana and Costa Mesa are bad as well as in Fullerton after the case of Kelly Thomas, I had a mexican cop pull me over for riding a bike in the wrong direction on the sidewalk and he cited me for it when it's not in the local muni code books or the State Vehicle code and it's against State Law for them to be writing tickets for revenue for that offense. It cost them more in tax dollars to put it through the courts than the ticket itself was for, I heard it cost them 4 Grand or more.

Agreed! And will we be footing the bill for said child too?

No. But I am tired of trailer-home trash like you.

Actually, the banks in this country have screwed us far worse than the feeding and clothing of "illegal immigrants" ever could. I'd rather my tax dollars pay for the care of "illegal immigrant" children than bail out greedy, selfish bankers.

Steve

Good, I wouldn't want it any other way. You can call me any name you want. But, it will be a pleasure to see you fail mierably and completely at your new post. Good luck job hunting in a year.

I'd rather live in a trailer than in a two bedroom, 1200 sq/ft apartment with 12 other people in SanTana. Any day.

Have fun watching all those telenuevas on telemundo. lol.

Why does everyone cry about the banks taking the bailout? It's the head idiot in DC that gave it to them. He should have let them fail.

FishWithoutBicycle
FishWithoutBicycle

You're correct, it's not one or the other...but I was trying to point out that our mounting national debt has been made so much worse by the bank bailout and not by social welfare recipients ("legal" or "illegal"). I just think it's ridiculous to demonize someone for taking a relatively small handout when a huge chunk of our tax dollars was just handed to the banks with little or no oversight on how that money would actually be spent.

It's not an either / or issue. In fact, the financial elites are one of the biggest open border constituencies -- they make (or made) money of the mortgages that the new population require.

hey pepe, i dont speak with my mexican housekeeper or gardener, so why do i care what you have to say?

Steve

Pepe, you are real classy. Just like so many of your other illegal alien brothers and sisters. It's obvious you have some real problems with who you are. Just accept the fact that no matter what you say, or what you do, everyone isn't equal. That's just the way it is. Deal with it.

Then, get back to work. Table 34 needs drinks, and table 42 needs their plates cleared. Chop chop.

I love it when you prove my point for me, you uneducated, inbred turd. First, it's "gets," not "get." And that other word that you tried to use, it's spelled "immigrate," not "immigrant."

Pepe
Pepe

And Mitch, it sounds like you have no idea of the positive economic impacts of immigrant labor. As a matter of fact, it sounds like you have no idea about a great many things. Don't worry though, there's still every chance that with a lot of hard work and a little luck you can "graduate" from the fourth grade.

Every country has the right to determine who get to immigrant and how many. Mexico certainly controls its own immigration, as does Italy

"Allowed their ancestors into the country"

Only after fighting tooth and nail to keep them out, and treating them like second-class citizens once they were here. How noble.

mitch young

Ross, sounds like you have no idea of the negative economic and environmental impacts of mass immigration. Also sounds like don't like WASPs, i.e. the people that did the most to create this country, very much. Fortunately the majority of real Italian-Americans don't have a vendetta against the people who allowed their ancestors into the country -- back east they are majority republicans with some great immigration restrictionist stalwarts.
