Scott Evans DeKraai, Mass Killer Suspect, is a Darling of the Tea Party and Divorced Dads Rights Groups

scott-evans-dekraai-tea-party-license-frame.jpg
Scott Evans Dekraai, the 41-year-old Huntington Beach man held without bail for last week's mass killing spree in a Seal Beach salon, is a teabagger. This license-plate frame at right was on Dekraai's Toyota SUV, proving that he was a proud member of the gun-lovin', tax-hatin', gubment-despisin' so-called Tea Party. The JoinTheTeaParty.us link on the frame leads to the mirror site TheTeaParty.net, which describes itself as "a division of Stop This Insanity Inc. and is a national non-profit 501 (c)(4) organization created in 2009 for the education and advancement of the constitutional conservative values of the Tea Party movement."

Scott-Evans-Dekraai-booking-150.jpg
It continues, "This organization was created to help give the power of government back to the people. We believe, like many of you, that our government has grown out-of-control in a death spiral of unsustainable and barely imaginable trillion-dollar deficits and a national debt rivaling Gross Domestic Product. This government has ignored the Constitution that defines us; invaded the liberty from which our nation was born; and daily drains away the individuality and entrepreneurial spirit of Americans in order to advance a radical, socialist policy built on the back of American taxpayers. We--like many of you--decided to stand up and do something about it."

Federal Election Commission records reveal the laughing (alleged) mass murderer pictured above gave $300 on Aug. 8, 2010, to Stop This Insanity, Inc. If only Stop This Insanity could have stopped this insanity that happened on Wednesday: a lone gunman in a bulletproof vest and loaded to the hilt walking into a bustling hair salon and popping off shots that killed eight people and left one senior citizen clinging to life. District Attorney Tony Rackauckas announced Friday he will seek the death penalty against Dekraai for the largest mass murder in Orange County history.

Speaking of groups composed of people who feel victimized (but, in the interest of fairness, are not completely filled with murder-victim makers), mens rights activists have rushed to Dekraai's defense. TDOM of A Voice For Men titled his post on the mass murder "Eight Dead: Isn't That Just Delightful?" He tries to draw a comparison between the cases of Dekraai and Catherine Kieu Becker, the Garden Grove woman accused of slicing off her estranged husband's penis and tossed it in the garbage disposal after he told her he wanted a divorce.

The writer notes that Sharon Osborne joked about the Becker case on national television, apparently calling the act "delightful." "So far, I haven't heard the word 'delightful' used in connection with the incident," TDOM states of the Dekraai case. "But why not? . . . If it is funny and 'delightful' when a woman commits an act of violence against a man, why isn't it just as funny and 'delightful' when a man commits violence against a woman?"

That last line hangs there for 184 more words until TDOM ends his post with, " Violence against anyone is a serious matter. No one should think it is 'delightful' or funny."

Ferdinad Bardamu of In Mala Fide, an online magazine dedicated to publishing "ideas that polite society considers 'racist,' 'misogynistic,' 'homophobic,' 'bigoted' or other slurs used to shut down critical thinking and maintain the web of delusions that keep our world broken and dying," also brings up the Becker case in his post on the Seal Beach murders titled, "Anti-Male, Anti-Father Divorce Laws Drive Man to Commit Heinous Rage Shooting Against Ex-Wife."

Keep in mind that living, breathing Dekraai had primary custody of his 8-year-old son, having the boy 56% of the time while his now-dead ex-wife had her son 44% of the time. Also keep in mind while reading Bardamu or TDOM that the man at the center of the case allegedly used innocent people as collateral damage, unlike the accusations against the woman said to have wielded a knife one crazy night.

Better yet, ignore all that, according to Bardamu: "[D]o I expect this horrific crime to inspire any introspection on the part of Americans, or any questioning of the role of feminism in poisoning the relationship between men and women? Nope."

If the sexes of the presumed killer and target were reversed, Bardamu reasons, and it was discovered a woman mass killer was having problems in family court, "her plight would be lamented and her actions excused by the exact same people who are going to be condemning this guy. Expect this horse to be flogged to death and back for the next month or so as proof of systemic "misogyny" in American culture. See how women reacted to the story of the guy whose psycho ex cut off his penis and shredded it in a garbage disposal."

Jezebel also zeroed in on the In Mala Fide post, focusing instead on comments like these left under Bardamu's rant:

[E]nough of this type of offensive action might just start making women and their supporters* think twice, especially if they also become targets. (* Divorce attorneys, child services workers and counselors, family court judges, and other enabling cogs in the feminist legal system).

What options other than overt acts of physical violence are there for a man to deal with a shrew ex and corrupt family court system? To those who are horrified and surprised at this one question.... why? Isn't the real question - "How come this isn't a lot MORE common?". And please avoid the "Well... nothing justifies killing blah blah blah" as we've all voted, supported, and tolerated governments who kill over parking tickets much less loss of children. And if keeping your children isn't worthy of killing what is exactly?

Fuck me.

"Also keep in mind while reading Bardamu or TDOM that the man at the center of the case allegedly used innocent people as collateral damage, unlike the accusations against the woman said to have wielded a knife one crazy night"So you're accusing Catherine Kieu Becker's victim of being guilty of something? If a man asks for a divorce then he's "guilty" and not an innocent victim when his penis is barbarically tortured and mutilated beyond repair by his wife?

Pretty sexist.

Wow, really.  This woman who I know very well had less than 1/2 custody and was fine with leaving it alone. Scott the sick person was not happy with that and because this piece of crap did not get full custody which he did not deserve he killed people.  If people knew what they were talking about before they commented it sure would be nice. He is evil, not crazy just pure evil.  The whining by adult men is why we have so many unbalanced people in the world, get a grip on yourselves.

You are DISGUSTING!!! To try to make this a case that the Tea Party movement is responsible???? Really? SAD.  I bet you love the Occupy Wall Street people too, do you post about the anti-semitism of those in the movement?

I would like to take this moment to remind some of you gentlemen of how in the not-too-distant past women had very little say about what happened to their offspring...hell, we couldn't even VOTE until the 20th century! Family court is one of the few place where women have even a slight upper hand...and we can't even have that without a man crowing some BS about a "feminist conspiracy". Please. I'm appalled that any of you, even in spirit, would support Mr. Dekraai's actions. When is gunning down the mother of your child and 8 innocent people ever a viable answer to a custody dispute?

Let's follow Mr. Coker's logic for a moment.Scott De Kraai is a teabagger.Scott De Kraai committed a heinous crime and that makes him evil. Therefore all teabaggers are evil.

I won't even begin to count the logical fallacies involved here. But let's set all that aside. Suppose that all supporters of a given movement can be deemed evil because of the actions of one of their membership. Congratulations Mr. Coker, you've successfully demonstarted that all persons who have ever supported any major political movement are evil.

Regarding the horrible Seal Beach massacre- the ignorant anti gun Liberal Californians need to think hard about, this. If the 2nd Amendement Rights were respected by Liberal, Anti Gun Jerry Brown, this maniac could have been stopped. Just imagine how different this horrible tradedgy could have played out if one of the employees at the salon had a ccw hand gun on them in the salon? Too bad last week idiot governor brown voted against ccw in california, thus making it harder for honest citizens to protect themselves from criminals. These ignorant Liberal anti 2nd Amendement morons will now attack guns as the main problem as always and not focus on the real solution- an armed society is a safer society. Just take a look at your neighboring states and wake up Californians! Relying on the police to show up five minutes later to help you while a mass murder is killing innocent people is foolish. I bet that if someone did have a gun and shot, this maniac dead some slick Liberal Aclu attorney, would sue them for wrongful death. Welcome to the Insane world of corrupt Kalifornia politics!

Yes, Matt Coker, fuck you.

Neither Ferd nor TDOM was defending DeKraai's actions. They were both levelling the playing field. Do you still not get the difference or are you just being belligerent to earn your meal ticket? Either way, your attempt at analytical journalism is farsical.

I would suggest, Mr. Coker, that you return to third grade and brush up on your reading comprehension. My article was in no way a defense of Scott De Kraai or anything he did. I abhorr violence, though I do understand that it can sometimes be justified. The 184 words, as you put it, between the question about being "delightful" and the conclusion was nothing more than a piecing together of various bits of information found in a variety of news reports pertaining to Mr. De Kraai's background and a hope that we will learn more in order to gain some insight and understaanding of his crime. In no way is it used to justify or excuse anything he did. Rather than excuse it, I condemned it right along with those hypocrites who would joke and laugh about violence committed by women against men but are appalled by violence committed by men against women.

Learn to read Mr. Coker, learn to read. Once you've done that, come back and read my follow up. I'm hoping to have it completed soon. Oh, by the way, I'm not a Tea Partier, a divorced dad or a Republican just in case you're confused about it.

I havent seen anything from MRA's directly supporting Dekraai's action,in fact, they all seem to go out of there way to explicitly decry them- " Violence against anyone is a serious matter. No one should think it is 'delightful' or funny."

they're merely pointing out the embarrassingly blatant media double standards with regards to violence bewtween men and women respectively.

Also, your connection between Dekraai and the Tea Party is... disparate... to say the least...

Another datapoint... but more along the lines of "man bites dog".

Helena shooting victim had just filed for divorce, sought protection from wifehttp://missoulian.com/news/sta...

The Independent Record reports 48-year-old Joseph Andrew Gable asked District Judge Dorothy McCarter for a temporary order of protection from Michelle Coller Gable on Sept. 20, alleging she was stalking him.

I wonder how the woman judge feels now given what happened?

McCarter denied the request, writing: "No personal danger or threat involved."

The only surprise to me is that stuff like this does not happen more often. Or perhaps I am wrong and it does, but just does not get reported. The Thomas Ball incident for example was an eyeopener.

Anyway, I am not going to be surprised if there are some very spectacular acts of violence in the future, nor how they will be spun.

It doesn't take an objective mind very long to come to the realization after reading popular media that violence against women is always wrong. Violence against men of course is tolerable and when committed by women considered to be "empowering" for women. This double standard represents one of the core values of feminism: men are bad and women are always victims. Never mind the cognitive dissonance when women try to claim (usually successfully) that they possess higher moral values, superior work ability, and in general anything men can do women can do better (save for picking spouses that don't beat them).

But I digress.  I am just a man after all.

These killings do not surprise me and I expect they will continue. And as per usual they will be used by the media to further drive home the bigoted belief that men are violent, but instead of the usual call for help when it's women doing the violence we will hear calls for a stronger response from law enforcement and longer sentencing from legislators.  Both of which will only increase the likelihood of more violence towards women in the future.

Harsher punishments and more discrimination might be exactly what the reader thinks should happen.  They may also further empower the feminists who think men should have no role in the raising of children. But if you think any of that will protect women you are wrong.

Wrong because the majority of men in prison and men committing violence in society are raised by women with the biological father absent. A correlation that transcends both race and poverty combined. In these cases women clearly aren't meeting the development needs of young men. No doubt, instilled with the value that all men are rapists and that's all they are is probably not a good philosophical foundation to raise a boy.

But more importantly, they are wrong because the most dangerous person in the world is one with nothing left to lose.

Continue to strip men of rights, dignity, respect and or the means to attain them and that is exactly what you will get.

As for my feelings on this tragedy I wish to say I feel terrible for the 3 male victims. Katherine Kieu Becker, the women of "The Talk" and millions of women who cheered and laughed at her horrendous act of sexual and domestic violence towards her husband relieve me from caring about the women who were killed.

Richard Overstreet
Richard Overstreet

California is a may issue CCW state. Most counties require demonstration of need before you can get one. I’m sure these victims had need for a permit, on the day of the attack. It is time to let victims defend themselves. Also, as far as I'm concerned the mans political affiliations are irrelevant, his motives for the attack had nothing to do with politics just a bad marriage.

Your article is so full of bullshit it's not really worth responding to but I'll make an effort anyway.

You said "Also keep in mind while reading Bardamu or TDOM that the man at the center of the case allegedly used innocent people as collateral damage, unlike the accusations against the woman said to have wielded a knife one crazy night."

Unlike the accusations?  Since when is a proud confession an accusation and since when is a man asking for a divorce from a violent woman not an innocent victim.

People like you miss the whole point about the penis chopping event.  It isn't just that a woman chopped off a mans' penis.......it's that  the world laughed about it instead of seeing it for what it is......and it's not the first time.......it's every time it happens.   And women are so excused that they can host TV shows and laugh about it......that is how much violence against men matters in society.

The police, the courts, especially the family courts, have become nothing but extensions of this violence by women, against men.  Men........that's you Mr Coker.......the world will laugh and justify violence against you too you know.

In the face of this, it is understandable that more men will turn to the only tool left..........violence.   If society doesn't want this, then start recognizing the problems men are facing in the face of a gender feminist ruled family law system for a start.

More common?  Cheez, do your homework.  This kind of angry male versus female partner gun violence happens almost every other day on a smaller scale all over the United States...it's just (1) not widely reported by the "news media," and (2) it usually ends as a "murder-suicide."  This guy just didn't have the guts to kill himself, if that's what it takes.  Just do a Google search on "shootings" every day for a couple of weeks.  (Better yet Nexis if you have access to it.) You'll be astounded. Google "murder-suicide" also.

Gotta say, there's some...interesting viewpoints on that In Mala Fide site.  Consider:

http://www.inmalafide.com/blog...

To quote (emphasis his):

"Allow me to elaborate on why the Poles are suddenly eager to sacrifice their country on the altar of liberalism – capitalism and conservatism go together like bleach and ammonia. Liberalism is an inevitable byproduct of capitalism, a destructive ideology that dissolves tribes, families and nations in an acid vat of individualism, human rights and free-dumb. It’s the ideology of short-term gratification and gain over everything else. Attempting to temper capitalism’s effects with traditionalism will always backfire because when the proles get a taste of capitalism’s free-dumbs, they acquire an insatiable desire for more...

"What the Polish example shows us is that *if you consider yourself a conservative or Christian, you must oppose capitalism*. Capitalism is the source of everything you complain about, from immoral, mindless pop culture to mass immigration. I doubt any of this will take, however – conservatives are too deep in the liberal/libertarian paradigm to realize that they sold themselves out decades ago. Hedotopia, here we come!"

Etc. etc.

Women were given a lot of impunity from criminal and civil law when they couldn't vote. One of the feminists who spoke at the 1848 women's convention in Seneca Falls acknowledged that if a woman committed a crime in front of his husband then she couldn't be punished by the law.

Most men were denied the right to vote throughout history, yet none of them were given impunity.

So spare me the propaganda about the 'womenz'. Women have always had it better -- even during the "bad ol'days".

BeijaFlor

"SLIGHT upper hand"?  Look up the statistics.  Look at the sociology.  Look at the VAWA and the "Duluth model" that arrests the man in a DV dispute, even when the woman starts it.  You can hit a man and the cops will laugh.  If he blocks your punch, HE is arrested, HE is held as the villain, and you get the house while he gets to sleep at the hoosegow.

No, I do NOT support Scott DeKraai's actions. I am sickened and saddened by this tragedy. I do, though, question what might have driven him to this.

I am also sickened and saddened by the way OC Weekly has inflated this into a blanket indictment of the Tea Party and divorced dads.  I am distressed and chronically angry at the way the Press, and Society in general, assume the worst about men, portray us as the "probable villain" in any story, and regard us as subhuman brutes when they aren't using us as pack animals and walking wallets.

I would like to take this moment to point out some things to you from the right-here-and-now. You have never experienced any of that "not-too-distant" discrimination that you are trying to use to play like a trump card, justifying current active discrimination against men.

What the fuck do you think this is, your turn to be the oppressor? FTFY.You also have never had to face the current or historical discrimination faced by men.And please, spare me the BS on voting.  When the 19th amendment was passed there was only seven states where women could not vote, and in many of those they were allowed to vote in local elections of various kinds, and run for many offices.Men who didn't own land (the great majority) were only allowed to vote not too long before it was made official for women.  Have you ever really investigated anything that you believe, or are you just used to spouting the drivel you watch on TV?No one here has supported the killings at all. Not in spirit, not in any way. On that, just like Coker, you are nothing but a liar.

"This double standard represents one of the core values of feminism: men are bad and women are always victims."

This has never been a core value of feminism, unless you are referring to some of the mistakes that the second wave of feminism made. Third wave (modern) feminism does it's best to be inclusive of people of all backgrounds and genders, and has never encouraged violence against anyone, and in fact one of it's goals is to do away with the gender stereotypes and misconceptions in regards to men as well as women.

I know of no one who thought what Kieu Becker did was funny- it was profoundly disturbing and beyond words. That the media treats it as funny doesn't necessarily show a lack of respect for the the brutality of the attack and violence against men in general- the media also shows a lack of respect for female rape victims as well. Both genders are being mistreated in society, in different ways. Blaming feminism without being wholly educated about the subject is a cop out.
