UPDATE, OCT. 31, 2011, 11:59 A.M.: Roberto Bedolla Ambriz was sentenced on Friday to 55 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting two boys, one who was mentally disabled. According to prosecutor Heather Brown, he molested the mentally disabled child at least five times. Ambriz told investigators that the kids were "curious about sex," CBS reports.
ORIGINAL POST, MARCH 17, 2011, 11:09 A.M.: An Anaheim man has been convicted of luring two young boys into his apartment with potato chips, toys and cigarettes, and then making them watch pornography as he sexually assaulted them, The Orange County Register reports.
Robert Bedolla Ambriz, 55, was convicted on Tuesday of multiple counts of sex with a minor and lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and could face up to 171 years in prison. The victims are a 9-year-old boy and a mentally disabled child.
According to court records, the crimes began in 2005. Prosecutors said Ambriz lured a mentally disabled boy to his apartment by letting him smoke cigarettes and eat potato chips, according to the Register. In June 2008, he lured in a 9-year-old boy with a toy. Ambriz admitted to attacking the children when police approached him with a ruse that DNA evidence connected him to the crime.
Ambriz pleaded not guilty to all charges, but he was convicted of 11 criminal counts. His sentencing is scheduled for May 13.
