More Than 14K People Have Signed A Petition To Fire Or Reprimand All Six Officers Involved In Kelly Thomas Beating

After learning that four of the six officers involved in the Kelly Thomas beating hadn't been charged, Fullerton resident Paul Orloff decided to take things into his own hands.

Earlier this month, Orloff started a petition on Change.org, which boasts more than 14,000 signatures and demands that the four officers who weren't criminally charged by the DA's office be fired, or at least disciplined.

Orloff says Thomas' death hit close to home for him, because he had a brother, who like Thomas, lived on the streets and often got roughed up by police officers. "It hit me pretty hard," Orloff says. "This is way, way, way too far. This is ridiculous."

Orloff says he's been encouraged by the hearty response to his online petition, adding that almost 2,000 people have signed it in the past few days. "It's going up pretty fast. There are a lot of people signing it quick."

The signees are from all over. In the past hour or so,  people from Costa Mesa, Lindenhurst, N.Y., and Shelbyville, Ind. all signed on.

Aside from just signing the online petition, people can leave comments explaining why they did.  Here's the reasoning of signee Thomas Keegan: "If the people watching were not officers.. they would have been prosecuted."

Jon Perri, the senior organizer for criminal justice petitions on Change.org, says the response to Orloff's petition is impressive. "What Paul Orloff has accomplished in just a few days is remarkable," Perri said in a written statement. "With no help, Paul recruited thousands of people to join him in taking on the entire Fullerton police force."

Not only Fullerton, Ca. But we all need to do this. Its the only way I can see to get the message across that "We the American public are not going to allow such behavior from anyone especially those for whom we look to for protection!" what I have seen in the video and photos shows a gross abuse of power! I myself have experienced law enforcement at its worst first hand. Its frightening to see how far they are comfortable taking this abuse, in the presents of several people who didn't stay quiet about what they were seeing these officers do to this poor man! Truly Scary!

We lost our country and our freedom to the government and politics. The D/A helped the fullerton PD review and rewrite their statements. This hole thing was a fiasco. The D/A needs to be investigated as well.

this is a sad situation when those entrusted to protect us are acting like the criminals they are out there supposedly protecting us from. citizens wake up and take action to put "our government" back on the right track it is our job and our duty to make and if necessary remake our government, into a public service institution as it was and is supposed to be like both for us and our future generations. GODBLESSAMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You lost your country and freedom to Corporate America and Wall Street, not the government, the government is we the people.  We need to ELECT the right people to make government work like it was meant to from the start.
