Alexander Lucas Barnes Stands Trial for Murder of Girlfriend's 9-Month-Old Boy With Skull Fractures

Opening statements are scheduled this morning in the trial of a 20-year-old Santa Ana man accused of murdering his girlfriend's 9-month-old son by fracturing the child's skull to make him stop crying.

Alexander Lucas Barnes could get 25 years to life in state prison if he is convicted in Santa Ana court on one felony count of murder and one felony count of child abuse resulting in death.

Barnes is accused of babysitting his girlfriend's 9-month-old baby Isaiah Prim-Ortiz, who was not the biological child of Barnes, for the first time the morning of Oct. 6, 2009, while his girlfriend went to class at a nearby community college. Angered by the baby's crying, Barnes allegedly hit Isaiah in the head with blunt force.

The defendant is then said to have put the boy down for a nap around 1 p.m. When ~~the child's~~ Barnes' mother came to the home and discovered the baby was not breathing, she called for help. Isaiah was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4 p.m. Three separate skull fractures were said to be the cause.

Santa Ana police detectives sought a murder count against Barnes after an investigation. He is charged with one felony count of murder and one felony count of child abuse resulting in death.

First off the baby was 10months...Secondly I don't know who the fool is down below, but you obviously don't know the whole story, you don't know them personally. I do. Okay. He did kill him whether you're too ignorant to believe it or not. Secondly Alex's mother is a retard...Asking Alex, if Isaiah's lips should be that blue...Who is that stupid...Not only will the inmates get him, but God will too.

How do you know the mother of the baby didn't do it? She probably didn't... but no one can be 100% sure. Reading between the lines, the most likely occurrence was that the baby for some reason lacked air, choked, whatever... the retarded mother of Alex (not the baby mom) looks at it, messes with the head ('32' DID say she's retarded) and fractures the baby's skull... the whole thing is a mess. Any of the three could have done it.

Does anyone seriously buy the 'wouldn't stop crying' line? In the DAYTIME??? I don't think so! Do you think he would give up the chance to have sex with women for the rest of his life over that? Do you think he would put his life at risk, totally ruin his job prospects if he DOES survive prison... over that?? Come on! I'm saying what most people are probably secretly thinking but don't want to utter, as it's unpopular. We need MORE of the story. More DETAILS need to come out.

If he really IS guilty, throw the book at him, but the lack of real evidence at least in the media reports - it just stuns me how people can condemn so easily.

LET me tell everyone I'm the mothers close friend..first off the son was 10-months secondly...She never found him...Alex's mom is the one who found him, and asked him "are the babies lips supposed to be that blue" Damn idiot.

The second paragraph in this article is so untrue. The 9 month old's mother did not find the baby. She was at school, supposedly!! It was Alex's mother who was present in the home, went in the room and notice the baby's color change. It was right then she (Alex's mother)called 911.

Alex did not kill this baby, stop reporting information that is false. Report the truth or be quiet. Your facts are so false.

Jason- Your'e right, being convicted of murder on a child is not good. I'm praying that he will be proven innocent (he is) and therefore we won't have to worry about him being murdered in prison for a crime he didn't commit.

What do you know is the truth? Little do you know so don't be so quick to defend the one who did it thanks. I bet you heard your story from his family only and of course they are defending him. God knows the truth and so does he and that's why he is the one in jail and who is suffering the consequences just like the child who was murdered. His family suffered a loss. Do you be quiet. Thanks. God was and is working throug this whole murder case and the truth is in your face so stop hiding behind it like that boy is innocent. His mother is the worst mom ever. That's why he kid is the way he is! Sad case. A child was murdered and you guys like like he wasn't. It's sickening how a person can do that out of anger. How do you all sleep at night especially Alexander? How do you sleep with that guilt in your heart please tell me? You guys all need to stop thinking you know Alex. He lied and his own dumb momma knows he's a LIAR but she wants to believe he's innocent today!!! God is much powerful than just a few words. This case was not based off of a few words from witnesses.
