Remember the train that used to house the Bur-r-Bank Ice Cream and Baker's Field Bakery near the entrance of California Adventure? Well, if you've been to the park in the past month or so you've probably noticed that it's gone.

The train, which was an authentic reproduction of the Western Pacific Railroad's California Zephyr that ran from Chicago, Illinois to Emeryville, California from 1949 through 1970, was dismantled in early August as part of California Adventure's sweeping renovation and expansion. The train was then donated and relocated to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, California.

Check out this video of the train being dismantled earlier this month:

It will become part of the museum's Zephyr Project collection. The Zephyr Project concentrates on the preservation and restoration of cars, locomotives, stories and artifacts that relate to the California Zephyr.

The car was removed to make way for the new Buena Vista Street entryway that is slated to open next spring. Learn more about the new entryway here.

Disney sees the donation as a way to continue the evolution of the parks while giving a nod to Walt's love of the railroad.

"Walt Disney's love of trains made this donation perfectly fitting," Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis said in a recent Disneyland Resort email. "The expansion of Disney California Adventure park provided the opportunity for us to make this meaningful donation and we are thrilled that the train will offer museum visitors and train enthusiasts an immersive experience, much like it did here."

I thought that train, while non-functional, was really neat.  While certainly not as bad as the changes to Pirates of the Caribbean (at least it's still there, and mostly the same as it was), I know I'll miss it.
