[UPDATED with Ex-Veep's "Arrest":] Dick Cheney Greeted by Protesters at Nixon Library

UPDATE, SEPT. 8, 9:56 A.M.: As Dick Cheney was lauding his profound role in Bush administration wars on terror, the Geneva Convention and the U.S. Constitution before a polite Nixon Library crowd Wednesday evening, he was "arrested."

Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans rose from her chair in the East Room, brandished an "arrest warrant" and informed the former vice president that he is under citizen's arrest for the very activities he's boasting about during his speaking tour and in his new book, In My Time.

As Evans tried to spit out over the jeering crowd of 750 who paid $75 apiece for their chairs that Cheney is an international war criminal who undermined the U.S. economy, made citizens less safe and killed a million people, she was escorted out of the museum.

Chenybookmark.jpg
Another Code Pinko, Sharon Tipton, shouted out that Cheney was a "war profiteer"--and she quickly received the same treatment, prompting the Man of the Hour to mutter "play time" before displaying previously unseen diplomacy toward his critics.

"There is nothing more important than the right of people to express their opinions," he told the crowd as his daughter/inquisitor Liz Cheney appeared frozen in time. "Their freedom to speak is guaranteed by the Constitution."

The Orange County Register posted video of slivers of the spectacle.

Cheney had begun his folksy appearance by inviting everyone in the room to swing by his Google Maps-censored residential fortress in Wyoming. It's unclear whether that invite also applied to the 100 Code Pink members and other protesters outside who toted "War Criminal" signs or wore orange jumpsuits with black head coverings to mimic those subjected to "enhanced interrogation."

Speaking of waterboarding, Cheney told those lapping up his every word that the U.S. only used that internationally recognized form of human torture on three people, and that everything the U.S. did to terror suspects under his watch had previously been done to American personnel.

There, don't you feel better?

"It is appalling that Dick Cheney is making millions off of a book full of lies," co-founder Medea Benjamin says in a Code Pink statement. "We believe war criminals like Cheney should be held accountable."

Check out this video about Code Pink's campaign to have In My Time moved from bookstore biography shelves to the crime section:

ORIGINAL POST, SEPT. 7, 10:09 A.M.: Caught Frontline's "Top Secret America" last night about the role of the intelligence community and the Bush administration in the build-up and follow-through to our adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan. Two takeaways:

1) Since every decision-maker is either interviewed on camera or represented in video shot at the time, it will be tough to make the worn-out accusations of liberal bias by PBS.

B) Dick Cheney: what an asshole.

I mean, if you want to lay the blame at the feet of anyone for turning gold (the CIA-led small, secret and successful war to wipe out al Qaeda in Afghanistan) into merde (Operation Desert Fuck-ups), it is Cheney.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition of peace groups that have never met a war they liked puts it more strongly: "Protest Dick Cheney! War Criminals to Jail!" is the title of their notification of a protest tonight to greet the former veep's scheduled appearance at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda.

Cheney, whose cyborg heart pumps baby tears through his titanium veins, is currently traveling the country and Fox News sycophanilia to pimp a memoir espousing the "correctness" of the
Bush administration's invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, use of torture, gutting of civil liberties and targeting of Arab and Muslim communities in the U.S.

"We must not let these war criminals show their faces without a fight," reads statement from the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition, which includes the Orange County Peace Coalition. "Join us to say: Jail Bush administration officials! End the wars now!"

The hijinx begin at 6 p.m. at the place the kids call "The Dick," 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd. (the corner of Yorba Linda Boulevard and Eureka Avenue), Yorba Linda.

And, just so you know that A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition is an equal opportunity pisser in the punch bowl, they've also scheduled an anti-war protest outside a Sept. 26 re-election fundraiser at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip starring President Barack Obama. "We demand money for people's needs, not war!" reads the announcement.

For more information on either protest, call 213.251.1025, email answerla@answerla.org or visit answercoalition.org.

It's funny reading these Far-Left articles in the OC Communist Weekly.  Just pour on the hate.  I especially like it how they never have a bad word to say about their heroes like Osama, Castro, Chavez, etc.  Anybody that get's in the way of their Fascist world view where the state is supreme and the individual irrelevant gets mowed over with lies and personal attacks.

The Radical-Left conspiracy nuts are giving me a good laugh too.  Bush and Cheney planned the whole thing so they could get oil.  Never mind the fact that Cheney relinquished his oil investments before becoming Veep.  They keep on bringing up that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.  The Bush administration never said they did, the that won't stop the Left-wing nuts from saying the opposite.  They claim that Bush lied about Iraq having WMDs, turns out they had small amounts of WMDs but not huge stockpiles.  So what?  Saddam Hussein put out false info claiming that he did.  He also attacked American planes in the No-Fly Zone repeatedly.  He also plotted to kill an ex-president of the U.S.  He also had a history of using biological weapons against a large Kurdish population.  There was also evidence of some WMDs being sent to Syria.  Any of these are enough to be considered an act of war against the United States.  Oh yes, Bush and Cheney committed torture.  We know this really means waterboarding.  The fact is they followed the law in using it.  The CIA also practiced sleep deprivation and other means to obtain information.  What would you have them do, kiss the terrorists asses?  I know, they could talk tough, that'll work.  Welcome to the world of the low IQ Society.  They'd love to subject Cheney to torture no doubt, but a Jihadi terrorist who blows up children, people in mosques worshiping, people getting married in a wedding, let's hold their hands and sing Kumbaya and give them free BJ's!  Betcha those Code Pink "ladies" would love to do that.

All of you morons saying Iraq was an unjust war can go eat a crap sandwich. The only unjust war is when the terrorists flew planes into our buildings killing innocent Americans. I see the liberals really don't give a crap about that though. If this country was left to liberals and code pink we would not exist anymore. Not just like as the country we know but like as we don't exist because we are all dead. Liberals will do anything, say anything that puts America in the wrong even after Americans are killed in a terrorist attack like 9/11. All you losers make me sick and WHEN the next attack happens I hope it is in a very liberal part of town.

Actually, ANSWER does support war.  They just want the other side to win.  ANSWER supports terrorist organizations.

Just curious if you were protesting at the Fire Truck that represented the 343 of my brothers who died on 9/11.

I think wishing DEATH upon those who don't agree with you is very UN-American. And may I remind you that even the Bush Administration ADMITTED that Saddam Hussein and his minions had NOTHING to do with the attacks on 9-11...and the second Iraq war was declared under the FALSE pretense that the Iraqi's had WMDs. What is also a FACT is that most of the 9-11 hijackers came from SAUDI ARABIA...so what exactly justifies your hostility towards the Iraqi people? But go ahead and keep blaming the liberals for "encouraging" terrorism because many of them dare to believe that violence in response to violence is wrong-headed and futile.

How does that foot taste?

Just be glad this event wasn't in Fullerton.

I don't think so.  Firemen helping fellow citizens during the 9-11 event, and Cheney orchastrating an unjust war in Iraq then capitalizing on the war are two very different things.

You might want to recall the absolute indifference of the Bush/Cheney administration to the many urgent warnings of an impending terrorist attack for months before 9/11. The victims of 9/11 could have been saved if Bush and his people had given a damn.

I dont know anyone who does not honor or respect our brave brothers and sisters who protect and serve us, whether they be firefighters, cops, or soldiers. However, it does not mean it is ok for our govt to torture, lie to us, make war, kill civilians, create false flag terror attacks. Im sad that so many died in vain on 9/11 when our govt was at the very least aware (although I personally believe they had a hand in it). Im sorry for all the lost lives of our brothers and sisters her in the U.S and all the innocent lives of those who have been murdered since 9/11 in the name of justice. I proudly stand up against tyranny and ijustice by any name.

Playing the "What About All the Victims That Think That All the Muslims Should Be Shot" card does not substitute for argument. Running rough shod over the ideals that this country was built on does not honor the victims of any crime. If you don't like justice and equality for all maybe you should move to the PRC where little things like liberty and innocent until proven guilty are not issues of merit.

For a much better answer than I could possibly give, go to iTunes and download Greg Proops' "The Smartest Man in the World" podcast. I believe his awesome Obama assessment is on the 8/5/2011 episode from the Punchline in San Francisco titled "Bumps." Or thereabouts.

I think katahdin was referring to the numerous reports and evidence that Cheney ordered us to stand down prior to any buildings being hit. If he had not repeatedly order us to stand down those lives would not have been lost.

Now I think about it it could be a cost of the open forum provided by the OCW, logins not required. I saw a forum a bit ago that required log-in to even READ the comments.
