The feds arrested a 71-year-old doctor, who practiced in Garden Grove, as part of a nationwide Medicare fraud sting this week.
Byung Ho Pak and
Mary Lim, manager of Pak's Seoul East West Medical Center, allegedly billed Medicare for about $2 million worth of pyhsical therapy services that were never actually performed, according to
an FBI press release.
The patients did get treatment, such as acupuncture and moxibustin, but the treatments weren't covered through Medicare, the press release says. The doctor and manager successfully bilked Medicare out of $1.4 million, the indictment alleges.
The
Medicare Fraud Strike Force charged a total of 91 people, for a combined $295 million of false billing, during the sweep this week.
According to the database on the state medical board's website,
which you should run your doctor's name through just for kicks, Pak didn't have any prior disciplinary record.
