Stacy M: Just to let you know, a very small amount of people with mental disorders kill people. I'm sorry that you've jumped to the wrong conclusion. Please get a little more informed about a a subject before you make such hurtful comments. My brother worked in the Mental Ward of the V.A. hospital and he retired from there after 20 years with no harm done, so the fact you would say such a thing really IS insane.

Stacy, not defending Ron Thomas but understanding how the system works and having dealt with mental cases (5150's) many times over the years, there is another side of the coin. There is a very fine line between those the law allows us to commit and those we can't. For a forced lock up, the person has to be an immediate danger to either themself or others. When people meet that criteria, they are generally held and evaluated by psychiatric professionals for 72 hours and a determination made at to long term probabilities. Due to overcrowding in psychiatric facilities, only the worst of the worst of the nut cases are locked up, with the rest being returned to the streets. From my reading of the news, it would appear that Kelly Thomas was diagnoised with Schizophrenia and being treated as an outpatient with medication. As with many such people, he didn't like the side efffects of the meds and stopped taking them. That was his choice, as was living on the streets. Being a father myself, I can only imagine the pain that Kelly's condition caused his mother and father. I am also sure that as would any parent, they ran the full cycle of options in trying to get help for their son. While I don't agree with some of the stuff Ron Thomas has been doing, it is not for me to judge a man who has just lost his son. On a darker note Stacy, if you knew how many nut cases fifty times worse than Kelly Thomas there are wondering the streets of America just looking for their next victim, you would lock your door and not come out.

But if you are talking about the protesters and so many other people who are speaking out about our civil governance, perhaps it is because it took protests in the streets to bring this matter to light. Perhaps it is because surveillance video, bought and paid for by citizens to keep citizens safe, is being used like the private property of a public institution. And those who are charged with special powers and special rules are the very ones we should be defended from! You may notice a stridency and speakers may seem mean when civil blood makes civil hands unclean.

I am not bitching. I'm not whining like any kind of woman. I'm not demanding this or that. I haven't condemned any of the public officials and I do live in Fullerton and in fact take the bus from the same platform that the video was taken from. In fact I departed that platform about 20 minutes before this incident occurred. "...protesters have accomplished anything other than give all the citizens of Fullerton a black eye". Here is where your ignorance shines forth like a beacon declaring, "Blame the victim. Blame the victim!" Your point it that it is not the Police Officers who beat a man so severely that he died from the beating that gives the city a black eye. It's not the bumbling official that says, "I've seen worse" about fatal injuries, and compares them to ones he's seen in Viet Nam. These don't give the city a black eye, you say, if we just would have ignored them. It's the people who point out the wrongs that make the wrongs wrong. With this one statement you condemn every whistleblower that has ever existed, and you vindicate every criminal who wears a uniform. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Amin, Il, maybe they did something wrong but let's wait and see what their courts say. It's so wrong I don't even have to read the rest of your message. I can see you already have enough problems to deal with. Good luck.I just hope if you ever get drug out of your car or home and beat to death you can hear the people saying, "Maybe he did something to deserve it? Maybe the cops overreacted. The OC DA's office is corrupt beyond belief. How many times have they EVER filed against law enforcement officers in OC? The Federal Department of Justice should be investigating Fullerton's police department AND OC DA.

Mark, there ae a lot of conflicting stories about what happened in this incident. People like yourself are running around waving their arms, bitching and whining like a bunch of old women (No offense meant to women). You demand this and demand that, condemn public officials and probably don't even live in Fullerton? If you think you or the other protesters have accomplished anything other than give all the citizens of Fullerton a black eye, then you are dumb as a rock. The District Annorney's Office was on this case from the start, just as they are on all similar cases in Orange County. The D.A.'s staff is highly professional and very good at doing investigations just like this one. Add to that the Civil Rights invetigation being done by the FBI and chances of any facts going undiscovered or being white washed are slim and none. Get off your soap box and knock off the bull shit you are putting out. When the investigations are done, the evidence analyzed (including the tapes), the witnesses and officers interviewed, conclusions will be drawn by the professionals. Then you, I and all the other members of the lynch mob will know exactly what happened and who did what to whom. Most certainly we will also know which specific laws were violated if any, by the officers. If the officers broke the law, then they deserve to and will be prosecuted for their conduct. Believe it or not, the System actually works but you have to give it a chance.
