Profiles in OC Pioneers Who Were Klan Members: William French, Fullerton's First Deputy Police Officer

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for babyklan.jpg
Hey, since the Fullerton Police Department is in the news because half-a-dozen of them beat to death a homeless man who suffered from schizophrenia, why not remind folks this week about the department's friendly past? Yes, Mitchie: Klan members were part of Fullerton's finest, and it started from the top in Marshall William French and beyond.

French makes the Fullerton history books because he was the first deputy hired by the city, to work as a night watchman for the city. He became marshal in 1912, a position he kept right up until the time the KKK infiltrated all aspects of Fullerton government and set up an operation even more powerful than much-more-maligned Anaheim.

By the time French left the force sometimes in the 1920s, he was already working as the city recorder, further helping the Klan dominate the city. The last note I'll leave for this entry is that the Fullerton Police Department's own history of itself makes fun of the deplorable jail conditions that French kept Fullerton prisoners in--because nothing's more HILARIOUS than police officers fucking with the public! Just ask Kelly Thomas...

Tune in every Monday around 5 p.m. for the latest entry exposing Orange County city fathers who were Klan members!

Was French related to Charles E. French, the Irvine Ranch Superintendent who became Santa Ana's first Postmaster?

Next Gustavo Arellano will write about how Anaheim was founded by the Nazi's. Opps they were not around yet hmmm, founded 150 plus years ago. Good point mitch, Hey Gustavo how did you get from a man hurt by police to pioneers being KKK members anyway? Who cares anyway there all dead now. Why are you in the US writing with the freedom of the press, this worthless trash. What edification are you bringing us with this useless appaulling garbage! Next stop Santa Ana for you.

Oh, BTW, I haven't seen the names of the cops in the Thomas case ... any of them end in ez, o, a, or ón?

Ah, Gustavo, these posts are like a little ray of sunshine on an always dreary Monday. I'll make it short, as I've got to get back to watching "Antiques Road Show", a great reminder that the US had a fully developed high culture long before the 'Ellis Island' immigrants, the 'fugees from Mexico's "Revolution" started flooding north, certainly long before the Bracero program...but I digress.

It's mighty strange you'd make a rhetorical connection between the beating of Mr. Thomas and a long ago Kluxer in the FPD. I didn't know the Kleagles were known for thrashing red-headed white men with eminently Anglo apellidos. At any rate, and as alway, the value of the post is in its pointer to history. Who knew the Brea foothills were the badlands of OC? As for Marshall French, seems he was a man of not insignificant physical courage. From your link.---In 1914 the first bank burglar alarm was installed at the Farmers and Merchants National Bank (now Landmark Plaza). The timing could not have been better: According to the News Tribune, a break-in was attempted the night after the alarm was installed, and the burglars reportedly were frightened off by the sound of the alarm. In their rush, they left behind a quart of nitroglycerine which was later very gently removed by Marshal French.---Total hero.

Well, when you consider the sources of the comments and the quality of the "information" they're spouting, not much of a working-over in the final tally. Carefully choosing out-of-context sources and misinterpreting those, which is the closest to actual analysis that these imbeciles do, does not count as actual research. When they're asked to post specific references and state how they support their "arguments", when they start spouting about their historical credentials, all that is heard is the sound of crickets. When they do make a vague allusion and you point out how the source actually doesn't say what they claim, there is never a coherent counter. Yawn. I'm always amused at the number of you guys that are apparently loyal followers, thanks for the laugh.

Gastavo has an extra dress or three, I'm sure he would be glad to help you out. But it may be a bit large on you. He almost certainly wears something much bigger- you know all the casera style flour tortillas he eats. Cheers! Have another drink gastavo as depicted in your own profile picture.

Edification? Writing the truth—and annoying cowardly gabachos like yourself and Mitchie in the process, and guess what? Score on both counts!

Of course they were—unless you think all those White men who the Klan terrorized and beat up in OC for being Catholic and Jewish weren't White at all. Wait, why did I even ask a question whose answer I already know...

Sure you're not talking about Calvito there, Billyboy?

Wow, I'm glad you sorted it all out for us Billy or is it teabagger koch zombie. What the hell is that in your profile?

Perhaps you should look at the profiles of people posting to what their past post have been to see who follows who before you paint a broad brush.  How long have you been following to be "always amused" and get a laugh? As far as your analitical analisis of the posts I think the crickets have already won and you lost.

The true mark of a loser: replying to spam more articulate than his own ramblings. Next up: Peter posting the conversations he has between himself and his gal, Maria the Right Hand.

Maybe you should present  some evidence of 'beatings of Jews or Catholic whites in OC' . Might give this series some actual interest. Maybe you're saving up for a grand finally, but I doubt it. And seeing as how I am a white Catholic, I can hardly deny my own existence.

Thanks for the correction billy, your profile that you are checking all the time still says teabagger koch zombie, just click your picture to the left of billy t. And you will see for yourself as everyone has. Opps there go those dam crickets again. Who was nit-picking typos, I missed match above also sorry. Gus its beer thirty.

What profile? If you happened to find a profile on line someplace, it wasn't me. Another false assumption on your part, DUH. I know, I regularly search my name and info and it doesn't pop up on any search. Very clever of you to confuse a 'bagger with me, my statements so universally toe the Koch party line, another big DUH.

As far as my following the posts it's because I respect OCW's editorial policy so of course I'm reading their articles and responding to the more vacuous posts, STFW? A third big DUH. I respond explicitly to statements in the posts, I don't need to know who might or might not be following whom, that has no bearing on whatever idiot comment they're making. That makes four DUHs in one post, 'grats.

As long as we're nit-picking typos, by "analitical" you meant to type "analytical".

Whatever, why would anyone lie about being Catholic? Besides you are the biggest Catholic hater around...but then, that is a big part of Mexican cultural heritage. Everyone thinks they are these devout mackerel-snappers, and some are, but a lot are bitterly anti-Catholic--read Graham Greene's 'The Power and the Glory'.

gustavoarellano
gustavoarellano

You, a white Catholic? BULLSHIT. Otherwise, you wouldn't be such an apologist for the Klan, or so hateful of your fellow Catholics. Gracias for giving me a great laugh! As for the beatings? That's actually one of the few things actually in the public knowledge about the OC Klan, so no need for me to retread that—it's like me saying that Anaheim was known as Klanaheim. REAL revelatory there...
