Todd Spitzer is a Psychological Test Away From Joining Sheriff's Department

Deputy Spitzer?
Given we know Todd Spitzer is a prolific multitask enthusiast, it's not surprising that the prominent but office-less politician couldn't just focus on his pending 2012 race for Third District supervisor.

Even while he's actively campaigning against fellow Orange County Republican Chuck DeVore for a county Board of Supervisor's seat, the 50-year-old Spitzer is seeking his 20th known job.

He has filed an application to become a member of the Orange County Sheriff's Department (OCSD).

According to OCSD spokesman Jim Amormino, Spitzer has requested to become a reserve sheriff's deputy and is presently undergoing a background check.

Amormino told me that the former---take a deep breath here, seriously--English teacher, state Assemblyman, county supervisor, LAPD reserve cop, assistant district attorney, school board trustee, Little League coach, campaign manager for California's Marsy's Law, director at the Orange County Fire Authority, KFI-AM radio host . . . that's enough for now--is getting close to winning the new job.

"I'd say he's on the 50-yard line in the process," said Amormino. "If he passes the background check, he'll then have to pass other tests--physical, psychological."

It will be interesting if Spitzer passes all the tests because his critics have long claimed that he took stress-related leave in the past and hasn't performed well in psychological tests. He has repeatedly called such claims the devious machinations of his political opponents. Indeed, more than half a decade ago, Spitzer gave me access to his county personnel file to demonstrate the veracity of his stance.

(Last year, District Attorney Tony Rackauckas fired Spitzer from a top-ranking post in his office after citing reoccurring maturity and ego issues. Spitzer responded by claiming Rackauckas is corrupt and a puppet to Mike and Susan Kang Schroeder, his two closest advisers. Rumors continue to swirl around local political circles that Spitzer really wants to fight the female Schroeder for the top DA slot when Rackauckas retires.)

Whatever the truth, it can't hurt Spitzer's chances that among his political allies is Sheriff Sandra Hutchens. The sheriff and Spitzer share the same political consultant, Dave Gilliard.

The play to add unpaid but gun-toting OCSD reserve deputy as another one his titles isn't without political implications.

In his race against DeVore, Spitzer--who, in a prior stint as a county supervisor, championed  controversial pro-public employee union pension perks--would be able to call himself an active member of law enforcement on the ballot, a potentially powerful designation in Orange County's suburban neighborhoods.

Like Spitzer, DeVore is a former state Assemblyman.

I know there has not been much coverage on this, but Todd was endorsed for his Orange County Supervisor 2012 campaign by the Deputy D.A's Association.  I guess they looked passed all the lies and slander that T-Rack and Schroeder said and knew with Todd's background and credentials he is the ideal candidate.

The one thing this article is leaving out is that Todd is going to be a LEVEL ONE reserve which means he will have full police powers.  He won't be a joke of a reserve like Corona created for Mike Schroeder.

"chuckdevore Chuck DeVore Spitzer to become a reserve Sheriff for ballot title? http://t.co/X6yVKoS"

That is from Chuck Devore's Twitter account.  How petty and pathetic is that Chuck now has to bash Spitzer for becoming a police officer?  Chuck are you saying that everyone who becomes an officer has political motive?  Why can't Chuck stick to the issues, why does he act like a little kid that is not getting his way? This is proof that Chuck has no reason for being County Supervisor; he is petty, political and retaliatory just like his handlers (Shroeders).

With someone's background like Todd's and all the different positions he has held many people would consider him an expert not only in regards to the law but to law enforcement as well.  Todd is not your typical politician; he walks the walk and talks the talk.  There are hardly any elected officials that would be willing to do what Todd is doing.  Todd is not doing this as a political stunt; he is doing this because he truly cares about the community’s safety.  The majority of police and fire personal speak very highly of Todd because they know he is one of them.

ugh.. Todd was an egotistical LAPD reserve who thought his stuff didn't stink.. can't imagine what value he would provide to OCSD.. didn't they learn anything from the "level 4" program they created under Carona?  all of the other lackeys during Carona's time were also made reserves so they could carry a badge and gun..

Ive always liked Todd Spitzer. I dont know alot about his politics because he never represented any areas that Ive lived in but I have had chances to socialize with him on many occasions. hes a nice guy. Sometimes intense but hes kind of a jock so what do you expect. Anyway, hes a former supervisor and knows the district well. Where as Chuck Devore seems to basehis political career on Nulcear power and espioionage from North Korea, and other romantic international issues. None of which have anything to do with running a county district. Absent a Democrat to vote for my support goes to Spitzer.

Would Chuck include Jon Fleischman as not having a political motive in being a reserve deputy?

How do you know the majority of police and fire speak highly of him? Speaking for other people aren't you?

if Todd had such an ego and had no value to LAPD, why was he honored as LAPD reserve officer of the year and became a trainer for full time officers?  Seems like Todd brought a lot of value to LAPD and he will do the same to OCSD
