Roger Carlson, Former Daily Pilot Sports Editor, Has Newport Harbor High Press Box Named After Him

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District has approved naming the press box at Newport Harbor High School after former Daily Pilot sports editor Roger Carlson.

Carlson, 76, covered sports for his hometown newspaper for 40 years, 15 of those years as sports editor for the almost-daily that concentrates on Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. He spent many Friday nights in the press box at Harbor High's Davidson Field.

"I'm overwhelmed," he told his former paper. "To have my name assigned with a Newport-Mesa school district field is something that doesn't come around very often. I'm very honored by it, and I have a lot of people to thank."
