OC Weekly Makes Some Noise at the AAN Awards in New Orleans
At Friday's awards presentation at AAN's annual meeting in New Orleans, theater critic Joel Beers took second place in the Arts Criticism category for papers with print circulation of 50,000 or higher. His reviews of Buried Child, The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, and Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical earned him the nod.
Staff writer Nick Schou took home two honors. He got second place in the Music Reporting/Criticism category in our circulation class for his profile of Sublime with Rome. He earned the bronze medal (it's not actually a medal, it's a certificate, but whatever) in the News Story (Short Form) category for three news pieces: "Will This Pot Case Get Weeded Out?"; "Crash First, Ask Questions Later"; and "Murder? Are You Crazy?"
Congratulations to our winners! Check out AAN's website for the complete list, which also includes as passel of prizes for our Village Voice Media sister papers.
