A woman killed in apparent murder-suicide in Riverside that was blamed on her husband has been identified as a Santa Ana College faculty member.

Kesha Hondo, 39, was a speech communication professor at SAC, which she joined in 2005 after teaching stints at Goldenwest, Orange Coast and Long Beach City colleges and Cal State Long Beach.

Someone called Riverside police after finding the bodies of Hondo and her 51-year-old husband Andamo Hondo Wednesday evening in an upstairs room of their two-story residence in the upscale La Sierra neighborhood.

Police say the husband suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The wife's injuries were not disclosed, but Andamo Hondo is suspected of having caused them. No one else was home when the couple perished, according to police.

Anyone with information that can help investigators is asked to call Det. Ron Sanfilippo at (951) 905-2912.

Police did not indicate whether the couple had children. Kesha Hondo was formerly known as Kesha Curtis.

Her SAC staff bio page mentions a special connection she had with Santa Ana:

Kesha's grandparents relocated from New Orleans to Santa Ana in the late 1940's to raise their three children in an environment rich in opportunity, thus she feels especially proud to  serve a community that has contributed so much to the growth and development of her ancestral history.

She earned her M.A. in speech communication and master's in communication studies from Cal State Long Beach. She was also a certified mediator, trained as a neutral third party participant to assist disputing parties resolve conflicts in juvenile, family, and civil issues.

"When I teach communication," she said in her staff bio, "I reinforce to myself who I am and how valuable my relationships with others are in my own life."

Professor Hondo's friends, students and co-workers have been leaving comments honoring her at the Southwest Riverside Network News site. One indicates flowers can be sent to Brown Mortuary at 204 W. 17th St., Santa Ana. Places to donate in the victim's name lieu of flowers is apparently being set up at Santa Ana College.

I cannot believe Kesha passed last year. I just heard of the news today. What a student I've been. My sister told me her speech teacher had related the story to them. I've always told my family and friends to take her class because she was the most awesome college professor by far that I've had. It's no wonder I don't see her name in the class schedules now. It's unfortunate and truly sad to hear that she is gone. She will forever be missed. She was the best and always had a smile. Rest in peace.

I never had the pleasure to experience Ms. Hondo as a professor but I am very glad that I was able to meet her and know her as a person. She always had a bright smile on her face, a happy bounce to her walk, a friendly ear always willing to listen, and a minute or two to spare just to shoot the breeze with you. I will remember fondly the last time speaking with her in company of Dr. Neal Rogers, we were laughing up a storm, as one usually does if any one knows Dr. Rogers, talking about human sexuality and how Rogers and Goldman used to tag team when they had taught together. I will remember her laughing so deeply and happily, her beauty, inner and outer, her heart so kind and loving, towards her family, as well as towards all those who had the luck to cross paths with her, whether students, fellow faculty, or any one in general. She will be forever missed. May she rest in peace, and may her daughters find the healing necessary to get through such a tragic event in their lives. May her love for them never leave their memory so that they never feel any emptiness inside, for she lives within them. She will spiritually be with them and guide them throughout their lives. For they were deeply loved by her, they will be her legacy. My sincerest condolences to the Curtis and Hondo families. Rest in peace forever beautiful soul, dear dear Ms. Hondo.

Success: To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded! ~Ralph Waldo EmersonAnd this, was my friend Kesha. She will be deeply missed. Those of us who knew her were truly blessed. Our job is to now pass on to others what she gave to us, and that becomes her legacy.

I just had her this past semester, she made everyday fun and exciting. She never made a day boring in that class. There was a day where we had to bring in food and tell why it makes us happy, She would talk about how her younger daughter  was being picked on by school playground supervisor(The supervisor was talking about jersey shore to 5th graders.). She even told us a story about how strict her grandmother was. When she was sitting down at a wedding, ant started crawling up her leg. so she got up and started yelling ANTS ANTS. and her grandmother started smacking her not because of the ants but because she interrupted the wedding. She would even talk about her bad first dates and how she went out with this guy who had a nice car, nice clothes, and nice everything. but did not listen to a damn thing she had been saying.... ...I will never forget you.

You must be a shell with nothing inside to make this kind of comments about a person who cannot defend her good name any longer becuse she had passed away.
