Brian Christian Williams and a friend were at a gathering in the unit next to his apartment at Chapman Avenue and State College Boulevard in Fullerton early Sunday when an argument broke out. Williams and the friend, when so told, left.

But others inside the neighboring unit followed the pair outside. This led to a fight in an alley of the 2200 block of East Chapman around 2 a.m., when Williams was punched in the face, fell backward and hit his head hard on the pavement. His friend placed Williams on his apartment's couch to sleep.

The 31-year-old never woke up.

The friend called police around 10 a.m. Sunday to report Williams was not breathing. Paramedics arrived and tried unsuccessfully to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police detectives investigating the death zeroed in on 24-year-old Jason Clifton Baird as being the man alleged to have fatally punched Williams.

Police spotted Baird's GMC Yukon on the westbound 91 freeway at the 55 freeway this morning. Officers in unmarked cars followed the Yukon to Glassell Street and Baywood Avenue in Orange, where they Yukon was pulled over. A man and two women were ordered out.

The women were questioned and released, but the man, later identified as Williams Baird, was arrested on suspicion of murder, booked into Orange County Jail and held in lieu of $1 million bail.

The investigation continues and anyone who can help is asked to call Fullerton Police Det. Matt Malone at 714.738.6534.

I want to know why he followed him to an ally? The "suspect" was told to leave and did so...but the "victim" left the house and followed him and ended up getting hit. What did he expect? Listen, I am sorry he is dead and all but maybe someone should notice that all this could have beeen avoided by just letting it go what ever "it" was! Point blank, you play you pay! This is what happens. Dont know the whole story but this guy in jail for most likely defending himself..If I was the a-hole who got kicked out the party and I got followed to an ally I would have thrown a punch too.

wow you are an absolute fucking moron, I feel sorry for anyone who has the tragedy of knowing you

Could have been avoided if the SUSPECT didn't follow the VICTIM into the alley.  Get the story right.  That is the problem.  If he would've just let it go when the VICTIM left the premises this would have never happened.  Now we have one beloved young man dead, and the other in jail.  Senseless violence.  Lesson for everyone reading, you take your victim as you find them.  By punching him in the face, he clearly intended to cause bodily harm, the fact that he hit the pavement even if unintended, was not unforeseeable.

get the story straight. It was the victim that was asked to leave & left. If the stupid suspect didn't follow him none of this would have happened. Keep you mouth shut when you have no idea what happened. All you're reading is an article... & by the way... the guy who got kicked out was NOT an a hole. But then again... you are for being a judgmental bastard.

1 million dollars bail for someone with no criminal history is ridiculous this guy is not a flight risk or a harm to others in society.  This was a fluky death and had the victim's friends taken him to the hospital this could have all been avoided.  Hard to believe that a punch to the face was the "fatal blow" it was more likely the contact with the ground.

Well Law Professor, doesn't matter if it was the punch or the hit on the ground, he actions still caused this mans death. Punching someone in the head can cause death, period. Even if it was a fluke you are still responsible for your actions, that is why you don't punch people in the head. He'll likely get charged with manslaughter.

You assholes are so insensitive.  He was my friend too and a great man.  He had more class in a strand of his hair than you will ever have.  If it was a story about you, he would never say the immature things you all just did. i hope you're happy with yourselves. show some respect, what the fuck is wrong with you.

I meant no disrespect, I truly feel bad for the victim, his family and his friends.  However there is no reason to not call the police or paramedics when someone is hit in the head and then hits the ground so hard.  It is a horrible situation and nobody comes out of this looking good.  It is an absolute horror and I am sorry if I offended the victims friends.  It is just unfortunate that he had to die and someone is going to be charged with murder for punching someone in the face.  People shoot and stab people and they don't die, I don't think in anyway this guy wanted to kill the victim, not even close.  Yes he should not have hit him in the face however there could have been a lot that could have been done by his friends who were there to save his life.

Giving you a heads up but the victim didn't have any 'SO CALLED' friends. His AMAZING friends did NOT just stand there & do nothing. They did everything in their power and unfortunately this is a freak tragedy in every way. And if you want to throw some damn blame around... blame it on the guy who followed the victim. He's the idiot.

Yes, let's blame the victim!! Have you ever taken a hit? Fallen down and hit your head? He might have been conscious and told his buddy he was fine and just wanted to go to bed.  Head injuries can sneak up on you.  It wasn't the victims responsibility to go to the hospital, it was the attackers responsibility not to punch him in the head. You said, " I don't think in anyway this guy wanted to kill the victim, not even close.", that is why it is called manslaughter and not murder. Think before you act people, your actions can have consequences you never imagine, and even still you are responsible for them. Now take your opinions elsewhere.

I agree. I wish Williams' friends acted like real friends that night and did something to help him out as opposed to letting him just sleep, and who knows, they probably continued to party. However, there is no need to prosecute another man unjustly when other people, ESPECIALLY his so called friends, stood there doing nothing.

Hey, writer, you might try proof reading. Williams was the one who died, not the one in the car.
