On Saturday afternoon, a friend of Dr. Marianne E. Cinat found the medical director from UCI Regional Burn Center dead in her backyard swimming pool in Rossmoor. Details of the death are still under investigation by the coroner's office through the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The 46-year-old's body was discovered at 11:14 a.m., according to the OC Register report. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.

Along with her position with the burn center, Cinat also was a professor in the UCI School of Medicine, sharing her knowledge and experience as a trauma surgeon.

The response from the UCI community has been that of surprise, dismay and warm memories of Cinat's contributions to the school and the patients she worked with.

Cinat was "an outstanding surgeon whose skill and compassion touched the lives of hundreds of burn survivors and their families," according to John Murrary, a spokesman with the UCI Medical Center. "She was a wonderful colleague, friend and mentor whose presence will be deeply missed."

But by Grace Late Sunday evening I received word of the sudden passing of Dr. Cinat, my hand surgeon.I have a thumb and four fingers. A palm. A wrist. Marianne saved my hand. Had it not been for her compassion and conviction, I might wonder where the outcome lie on the other side. The reconstruction is her masterpiece to me; It is a testament to her artistry she took her dedication to such lengths. I am but one of her beneficiaries, in a host of beneficiaries. There are very few passing windows we are allowed to look out and grasp the responsibility of clarity. Marianne Cinat opened one of those precious windows.Marianne Cinat was so very focused on the needs of her patients. I am still today reflecting in awe of her gift. She cared and nurtured every wound, seen and unseen. Marianne truly inspired others to do greater.

Over 78% of my body was burnt in a house fire in 2008 and Dr. Cinat and her staff saved my life. I was in a comma for 3 1/2 months and it was all thanks to Dr. Cinat that I pulled through, she was the best professional burn doctor there was and will be missed dearly, R.I.P.

She was the best. Very patient and loving to children in her care. I was at the hospital almost a month. I could not have asked for a better doctor.

I had the honor of working with her for a number of years.  She was such a great competent surgeon, and so many patients are alive because of her skill.  I never saw her lose her cool, even during stressful times when a critical trauma patient rolled into the Emergency Room, or the Operating Room.  She will be greatly missed.

She was the best. She saved my life in 2002 when I was a motorcycle trauma. On many occasions when we spoke she was always patient, straight forward and kind. Just a outstanding person. The kind of Doctor you were proud to speak of. RIP Doctor Cinat.

Just a theory: she strikes me as a lesbian, perhaps discreet about her sexual orientation. The police should definitely check her computer to see if she had a lover or hooked up with someone for NSA sex recently, maybe even on that Friday night. Crime of passion or just someone flying off the handle because of money. But then again, it could be something as trivial as a stroke/heart attack and falling in the pool fully clothed.

Hey Nancy Drew, why don't you work on the case of your missing judgment, sensitivity, and appropriateness?  If you solve that, then come back to this case and retrace your steps.

You should be ashamed of yourself. That is a terribly insensitive thing to say in the wake of a tragic loss like this.

You too took the words right out of my mouth! You are so right!

You're an idiot.  Her sexual orientation is none of your business and has nothing to do with her death.  Nancy Drew you are NOT.
