Fullerton police officer Kelly Janeth Mejia was arrested last month for allegedly stealing an iPad from another traveler at a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint at Miami International Airport.

This week, the six-year veteran of the department was placed on paid administrative leave.

Lou Ponsi has the scoop for The Orange County Register.

The 25-year-old cop was spotted on surveillance video placing the iPad in her carry-on bag after taking it from a bin adjacent to a metal detector, according to Miami-Dade police, who add the $800 device was later plainly visible in Mejia's purse.

Meijia, who is said to have told Miami cops she found the iPad, has already pleaded not guilty to third-degree grand theft and is due back in court Aug. 29.

Fullerton Police Sergeant Andrew Goodrich reportedly told the Reg that Mejia was placed on administrative leave as soon as her superiors found out about the arrest. Her future with the department depends on the outcome of her court case, the spokesman added.

Ponsi ends his post like a Weekling, noting that Mejia was among 22 Fullerton police officers who were honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for making a significant number of DUI arrests in 2008.

I agree with some of the posts, it seems ridiculous.  But at the same time, how often has someone took the toiletries at the hotels?  Maybe a hand towel or two....  A higher standard is expected of those that "serve and "protect".

You jerk off, it sounds like you have been on the receiving end of the justice system and have an ax to grind.  There are good Cops (the majority) and bad Cops, just like there are good and bad people working in all professions.  In this case, the Fullerton Officer got through the strict screening process and was hired.  From the information in the story, her career will be a thing of the past, even if she is not convicted of a crime.  By the way, if your ass is ever in a sling and you need help, call a taxi driver, that is if you can find one who speaks English.

So which disgruntled cop is patrick R, the one that molested kids, raped immigrant women, or put pics of his undersized weiner on people's windshields?

So if we turn down police protection, will we still have to pay property taxes?

Wish I could commit a crime and get put on paid leave.  I'd commit a crime every week.
