A Skype Wedding: Groom Marries His Bride From a Hospital Bed at UCI Medical Center

Nothing was going to stop Helen Oh from getting married this past Saturday, not even the fact that her hubby-to-be, Samuel Kim, had come down with a lung infection that landed him in the isolation ward of the UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Family and friends from Korea and New York had flown in for the Fullerton ceremony, so instead of postponing the occasion, the tech-savvy couple, both 27, decided to wed over the web-video conferencing system Skype.

While Oh stood at the altar, Kim said "I do" from his hospital room, decorated by the nurses.

Oh told Reuters that the Skype wedding was not an ideal way to have a ceremony, but guests were happy.

"[Samuel] said he will make up for it. He promised me he's going to be the best husband in the world," Oh said. "He felt really terrible that he wasn't there."

The marriage-sealing kiss should come soon enough. Kim is expected to be released from the hospital this week.
