Travis S. Mock Shot by Cop One Day, Arrested the Next

There was an old Saturday Night Live skit spoofing '70s cop shows that had officers in plainclothes bursting through a door, repeatedly firing their weapons at the perp inside, and then yelling at the bullet-riddled corpse, "Freeze!"

That image comes to mind when hearing about the hospital-bed arrest of Travis S. Mock, who is recovering from undisclosed injuries suffered when the unarmed man was shot by a police officer in the cop's Anaheim Hills neighborhood Thursday morning.

The 27-year-old Santa Ana resident's heinous crime?

Stealing mail from homes on Mock's quiet cul de sac . . . allegedly.

The Orange County Register has the scoop.

Travis S. Mock
The unidentified Anaheim police officer, who was originally said to be off-duty but whose status has since been changed to on-duty in later reports, arrived in his neighborhood in the 1000 block of South Rexford Lane around 5:40 a.m. Thursday to find Mock standing in the street.

After Mock was shot, arriving police support say a brown bag containing mail from Rexford Lane residences was found next to the downed man. That area of Anaheim Hills has been struck by mail thefts in recent weeks, according to police.

Mock was arrested Friday on suspicion of theft of U.S. mail and possession of stolen property and placed on a parole hold. Not that he's going anywhere given his wounds.

His family complained to The Orange County Register that they have been barred from seeing him while he recovers in a hospital--and getting his side of the story. They admit Mock has had run-ins with the law but claim none were violent.

As with all local officer-involved shootings, the Orange County district attorney's office is investigating.
