UPDATED, FEB. 23, 12: 27 P.M.: Here's a brief interview I did with Fantagraphics Books, the longtime publishers of the Hernandez brothers, about Jaime's work. See you mañana!

ORIGINAL POST, FEB. 17, 1:27 P.M.: Last fall, I was invited to the Miami Book Fair, one of the largest in the United States--not to speak about my books, but rather to interview one of my favorite writers: Jaime Hernandez, one of the brothers behind the legendary Love and Rockets comic book series, which revolutionized the genre during the 1980s with their take on punk life in Reagan's America. It was an honor to do it. Hernandez apparently enjoyed our conversation, because when I asked his publishers if he'd be willing to be part of my "Gustavo's Awesome Lecture Series!" at the Fullerton Public Library, he agreed.

Details after the jump!

Hernandez will join me in conversation TOMORROW (Feb. 24) at the Fullerton Public Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton, (714) 738-6333. Our talk begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be free. Hernandez will also sign copies of his gorgeous coffee table book, The Art of Jaime Hernandez. It retails for $40 but will be sold for $30, with portions of the proceeds going to the Fullerton Public Library.

The whole series is sponsored by the Cal State Fullerton Department of Chicano and Chicana Studies (where I'm a lecturer), the Fullerton Public Library, and the awesome Hibbleton Gallery. For Hernandez's fans: This is going to be his only public appearance until ComicCon; for those who have never heard of Hernandez, he nails the human condition like no one since Joyce. See you next week!
