Packed House Saw Reading of The Mexican OC at the Hunt Fullerton Library

A grand old-time was had by all yesterday at the Hunt Fullerton Library, that gorgeous William Pereira creation that is nearly impossible to find. The occasion was the kick-off of "Gustavo's Awesome Lecture Series!"--the public salons I'm holding in conjunction with the Cal State Fullerton Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies (where I am a lecturer) and the Fullerton Public Library. More than 50 people showed up to hear a rare public reading of The Mexican OC, the Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble play that shreds apart orange-crate histories of la naranja.

Video after the jump!

Video by Weekly contributor Gabriel San Roman. Best moment by far: when a train audibly passed by during the section of the play that involved Modesta Avila. The ghosts of OC live on . . .

It was great to hear those words of the play read out loud and brought to life...and yeah, the Modesta Avila/train moment...pretty crazy timing!
