Volcom and the Newport Beach Film Festival are looking for teen filmmakers--not for any nasty purposes, but to generate submissions for the annual spring youth cinema celebration.

This will be the seventh year of the Youth Film Showcase that runs during the Newport Beach Film Festival, whose 2011 edition is set for April 28 to May 5.

To qualify, U.S. or international filmmakers must be 18 years old or younger. Live-action or animated short films of all genres--including drama, romance, comedy, documentary, action sports, experimental, musical, science fiction and PSAs--can be submitted. Individual filmmakers, film groups or school classes may enter films. The deadline is Feb. 2. Submit through withoutabox.com, or download an entry form at newportbeachfilmfest.com.

The free Youth Film Showcase will include screenings, a Volcom awards ceremony, and a question-and-answer session with filmmakers.

"Filmmaking has always been a passion for Volcom since day one, which is why we love being a part of this event and helping to fuel the next generation of great filmmakers," Ryan Immegart, Volcom's VP of marketing, says in an NBFF release. "It's so inspiring to see what these incredibly enthusiastic and imaginative teens come up with, and I am genuinely looking forward to watching them all at this year's film festival."

Speaking of imaginative, check out the official poster:
