You may remember Lawrence Joseph Brown, the convicted rapist who was released on parole on Nov. 17, 2010, despite what was a gruesome attack on a pair of young girls in 1983. Orange County lawmakers and the district attorney, as well neighbors and area residents, were in an uproar as to how the violent 52-year-old man was granted an early release.

The uproar and fight to keep Brown in jail continues.

OC District Attorney Tony Rackauckas is trying to to ensure Brown remains in Chino State Prison for as long as possible. Rackauckas released a statement today, which appears after the jump.

"I want to thank the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and Secretary Matthew Cate for their hard work in the case involving convicted sex offender Lawrence Brown. Brown's parole was revoked today by CDCR, which gives the Orange County District Attorney the ability to file a petition to have brown declared a Sexually Violent Predator (SVP). He was sentenced to 90 days in prison as a result of his parole-violation arrest on Nov. 17, 2010. The Orange County District Attorney's Office will be filing a petition within the statutory time. A jury will be able to see Brown's full history and decide whether he is a SVP who poses a danger to the community. Brown is a convicted repeat child rapist who should never be allowed to walk the streets and hurt innocent victims."

After Brown violated his parole, just minutes after his release back on Nov. 17--he wasn't supposed to ride in vehicles with a woman--he was put back into jail and that's where he's been since.

If declared a "Sexually Violent Predator," it would be in the power of the state to prolong the confinement of Brown, even if he lives to see the end of his sentence.

There are no new developments in regard to the new victims who came forward following the outpouring of news and media attention on Brown's initial release.
