After serving six years on the Costa Mesa City Council, Katrina Foley sent an email, officially resigning her position yesterday, choosing, instead, to focus her time and efforts on her new position with the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Trustees.

Foley, who has played a integral role in the fight against the sale of the OC Fairgrounds, was at one point holding a position on both the City Council and the Board of Education.

Ultimately, Foley decided holding both positions was too much and opted to dedicate her time to the school board.

After choosing to run for the position in the Nov. 2 election, many questioned whether Foley, 43, could legally hold both positions. The gist of what City Attorney Kimberly Hall Barlow told those who questioned the situation: as long as no one had a problem with it, it could be so.

At a recent school board meeting, Foley indicated her intention of bringing a school band program to every elementary school in NMUSD.
