Dana Rohrabacher Wants to Take His Loony Act to Bigger Stage

Dana Rohrabacher, a man whose notoriously poor judgment caused him to associate with a long list of people who became convicted felons, wants to become chairman of the Science Committee in the House of Representatives.

According to a Nov. 30 profile in Politico, the Costa Mesa congressman is selling himself as more fit for the post than Rep. Ralph Hall (R-TX) because he claims he's more outspoken that global warming is "a total fraud" orchestrated by Democrats seeking to wreck the U.S. economy.

Rohrabacher--who routinely calls himself "a patriot" but skipped Vietnam War military service--pitched his candidacy for the Republican-controlled post this way in the article:

"If they want a steady hand on the tiller that's respected on both sides of the aisle, they'll probably pick Ralph. If they want somebody who's gonna shake things up and come up with a bold agenda, they're gonna want me."

Bold agenda?

Rohrabacher likes to celebrate the merits of the free enterprise system and the folly of a big, reckless spending federal government, but has vocally advocated that American taxpayers "award cash prizes"--government subsidies in more common parlance--to private space-related companies as well as pay massive cash bribes to anti-American Afghanistan warlords in the hopes that they will then forever more obey U.S. foreign policy objectives.

Sounds like the congressman's usual dinosaur-style flatulence to me. When the Republicans were last in charge of the House, Rohrabacher used valuable federal resources to conduct his own bizarre, taxpayer-funded investigation into whether Sirhan Sirhan murdered Sen. Robert F. Kennedy in June 1968. He also was the only member of Congress to publicly defend the Taliban while it harbored Osama bin Laden during the 1990s.
