James Roberts III, Ex-Huntington Beach Cop Accused of Rape, Sodomy and Other Abuse of Wife and Mistress, is Due in Court Today

​Former Huntington Beach police officer James Roberts III is scheduled to be arraigned this morning on rape, sodomy and 18 other felony charges.

The alleged victims? Roberts' wife and mistress.

Who says there are no great catches out there anymore?

The 34-year-old was still on the force at the time of his alleged reign of terror, and Roberts' ex's have filed separate lawsuits against the city accusing the police officials of ignoring the women's abuse complaints against the officer and conspiring to cover them up.

Roberts on Feb. 26 pleaded not guilty to the laundry list of charges against him, which include rape, forcible sodomy, false imprisonment by violence of deceit, criminal threats, domestic battery, aggravated assault, dissuading a witness and vandalism. He could get up to 23 years in the can if convicted on all the counts against him.

He was originally arrested in September 2009 and put on administrative leave before his eventual firing by HBPD this past April.

During the seven months between Roberts' arrest and firing, he collected $7,275 a month in full salary.
