3.7 Quake Shakes North OC and Long Beach

I was sprinkling a light dusting of blueberries and Trader Joe's Organic Granny's Apple Granola on top of my bowl of Kashi Heart to Heart Honey Toasted Oat cereal at 9:06 this morning when it sounded as if something was trotting across the attic over the kitchen cabinets.

My wife in bed with a cold informed, all nasally, "The house is shaking." It had caused ripples in her glass of water on her nightstand. Yep, we'd experienced an earthquake.

Ho-hum, pass the almond milk.

The magnitude 3.7 shaker was centered near the intersection of Tenth Street and Obispo Avenue in Long Beach, according to a U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist via the Orange County Register's Science Dude.

It likely followed the Newport-Inglewood fault and caused little to no damage.

The quake was felt in Buena Park, La Palma, Cypress, La Habra, La Mirada, Stanton, Irvine, Costa Mesa, Dana Point, Lake Forest, Huntington Beach, Midway City, Aliso Viejo, Newport Coast, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Santa Ana, Fountain Valley, Tustin, Anaheim, Brea, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Villa Park, Orange, Placentia and Yorba Linda, as well as in Long Beach and other Los Angeles County cities, Pat Brennan reports.
