Alert To Minors: Don't Be Out Past Curfew on Nov. 18

Kids, here's some advice. The night of Thursday, Nov. 18 is a very good time to stay indoors.

Police departments will conduct what they're calling the "largest-ever Orange County curfew sweeps." Cops in nearly every city--Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Garden Grove, La Habra, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana and Tustin--will be patrolling the streets in search of juveniles in public after curfew, which begins at 10 p.m. or 11 p.m., depending on the city, and ends at 5 a.m. the following day. The event, which has been publicized to the media, is part of an "ongoing County-wide gang prevention effort."

Last year, when a similar curfew sweeps took place, officers swooped up 67 unsuspecting minors. They were taken in the back of police cars to law enforcement headquarters, where they were held until their parents picked them up. Before being released, the kids and parents were given a talk on the dangers and legal consequences of violating curfew laws, and handed references to resources such as parenting classes, substance abuse treatment and family therapy.

So pop in movie, watch some YouTube videos, teach Fido a new trick. Just don't be out in public. That late-night trip to In-N-Out isn't worth it.
