OC Sheriff Slaps Sen. Barbara Boxer

Boxer isn't pragmatic?
Who knew Sheriff Sandra Hutchens could be sassy?

Leading up to her June election, Hutchens stole a page from District Attorney Tony Rackauckas: She was wooden and stiff.

But now--when it's not her rear end on the line--the sheriff has come out with fighting words about Senator Barbara Boxer.

Saying that she wants to hear "more than just lofty rhetoric designed to score political points [on public safety issues]," Hutchens announced this week that Boxer's Republican challenger, Carly Fiorina, is her woman.

"Carly shares my commitment to ensuring the safety and security of those we serve, and as a U.S. senator, she will stand up for the law enforcement agents and agencies that help keep our streets and communities safe," Hutchens said in a press release. "Carly has demonstrated a clear commitment to developing pragmatic solutions."

Fiorina said she was "honored" by the sheriff's support.

Hutchens calls herself a Republican nowadays, but was a registered Democrat for many years, according to voter registration records.
