Help Remember Young Suicide Victims on Coming Out Day

Categories: Main
DeColores Orange County, which is composed of students and community members raising awareness about the struggles of LGBTQ Latinos and Latinas, is calling on all Orange Countians to come out tonight--in honor of six LGBTQ youths who took their own lives recently around the country.

DeColores joins The Center OC, Gay Neighbors & Friends of Santa Ana and Parent, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) to mark national "Coming Out Day" with a 6:30 p.m. rally and vigil at Sasscer Park, 502 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Santa Ana.

"It is crucial for parents, youth, educators, elected officials and our communities, to work together and fight homophobia, racism and any other forms of discrimination in our homes, streets and schools," Jorge Gutierrez, a DeColores member and event organizer, says in a statement released by the group. "We must unite as Orange County and prevent our LGBTQ youth from taking their lives."

Gutierrez vows, "It is going to get better in Orange County and across the nation."
