"Inspired by true events" and shot in Orange, Huntington Beach and other Orange County locales, Jeff Phillips' low-budget indie UrFrenz is about a nosy mom (Gayla Goehl), her popular but damaged teen daughter (Najarra Townsend) and that girl's even more damaged former friend (Lily Holleman), all of whom's lives spin out of control following the spread of ugly gossip and malicious social networking.

Thanks to Phillips' snappy script, the lead performances (particularly by Goehl and first-timer Holleman) and the times we find ourselves in, UrFrenz strikes particularly truthful and troubling notes.

UrFrenz screens with Online, Federico Santillana's short from Argentina about two young teenagers having a cyber-romance. Show time is 8 tonight.
