You Weren't Imagining It: This July Was One of the Coldest

Categories: Main

If you feel like Orange County's June gloom only turned into July gloomier, you're right. The OC Register reported that, according to the National Weather Service, last July "was one of the coldest on record for coastal California." Fullerton's high temperature, for example, averaged around 79 degrees, as opposed to its typical 84. The LA Times reported that the record low for high temperatures in July recorded at LAX (70 degrees in 1991) was broken this past July 27 (68 degrees).

You have until the jump to guess what the masses think this all adds up to . . .

Colder temperatures for a month obviously means that global warming is a lie. At least, that's the gist of many of the comments on both blogs. Here is a gem from the LA Times:

"Cap and trade??? Who needs it! I like these global warming weather patterns. . . . Throw Al Gore in jail for Global Fraud!!"

While the comment sections have turned into politically driven pseudo-science debates, the OC Register article goes on to suggest that the cooling trend has nothing to do with global warming.

"A check of weather records by a Portland climatologist revealed an interesting pattern: whenever the equatorial Pacific was in a transition between El Nino, a periodic ocean warming, and La Niña, a periodic cooling, that persistent "trough" of low-pressure air could also be found along the West Coast."

Of course, all of this doesn't have to center around science. You could be like this commenter from the OC Register blog, and find a deeper life lesson in the changing climate:

"There is no global warming. Weather patterns are cyclical. Anyone married to a woman should know. There are ups and downs . . ."

Because marital strife trumps science, every time.
