Laguna Beach Native Booted From Washington Redskins

Colt Brennan
, who earned the NCAA record for throwing the most touchdown passes in a single season (58) while a quarterback at the University of Hawaii, was released today the Washington Redskins.

"I was totally surprised," Brennan told the Washington Post.

Pro football, so far, hasn't been kind to the 6-foot-3 Laguna Beach native who attended Mater Dei High School in Orange County and was a Heisman Trophy finalist in college.

Though Brennan was drafted in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL draft by Washington, he's struggled to overcome injuries and never came close to winning the starting position.

Brennan, however, was a favorite of Redskin fans based on his exciting performances in preseason games. But he became expendable when the Baltimore Ravens today traded reserve quarterback John Beck to the Redskins in exchange for a reserve cornerback.

No word yet on which NFL team will hire Brennan.
