Woman Gets Jail Time for Texting Herself

Trust me, it's not a sexy as it sounds.
The 25-year-old Santa Ana woman flamed herself because she had a plan. And she would have gotten away with it if it weren't for her crafty victims, and that damn cell phone salesman, too.

The cops were apparently so pleased by Jeanne Mundango Manunga's infinitely fun-to-say name that they decided to take Manunga's claim at face value and arrest the pair. The sister-in-law was arrested a second time, and had to put up thousands of dollars in bail money, before the victims went all vigilante justice on Manunga.
The two victims talked to the cell phone salesman at the cell phone store-- gasp!-- who was apparently able to confirm that the phone had been bought by Manunga. They took the info to the Costa Mesa cops, who then arrested the sister-in-law a third time, since she already had another warrent out for her arrest.
Finally, detectives got all detectivey and were able to confirm that the texts were sent from locations near Manunga's work and home. All of which lead to Manunga's arrest and conviction back in May of false imprisonment by fraud or deceit and two misdemeanor counts of making a false police report.
At Friday's sentencing hearing, Superior Court Judge Patrick H. Donahue also told Manunga to pay her victims $50,000 in restitution, and to stay away from them both.
Damn, thought Manunga, foiled again.
