[UPDATED:] Saint Margaret Ranch, er, Rancho Santa Margarita Backs Arizona's SB 1070
Aw hell, Rancho, go all the way and change the city name to Saint Margaret Ranch.
Besides hear-hearing SB 1070, the resolution implements the federal E-Verify program that allows employers to check on an employee's eligibility to work in the United States. As Chu reports, all city vendors will now have to E-Verify before getting work from the city.
UPDATE: "Unchecked illegal immigration has negatively impacted the city of Rancho Santa Margarita, the state of California and our entire nation," Tony Beall, the mayor pro tem, reportedly said. "I don't believe we need comprehensive immigration reform. I believe we need comprehensive and consistent reinforcement of our nation's existing immigration laws."
The vote was 4-0, but the absent fifth member had sent a letter supporting the resolution.
