| Libs target longshot |
Beth Krom finally has a reason to smile.
Politico is reporting this afternoon that
Krom, the Irvine Democrat who is challenging incumbent Congressman
John Campbell in November's general election, has won the promised support of a liberal group tied to former presidential candidate
Howard Dean.
Kasie Hunt, the author of the story, noted accurately that by coming to Krom's aid, Democracy for America "didn't choose a well-known challenger in a tight race."
How true.
Nonetheless, the group has pledged to raise at least $25,000 for Krom, direct "a couple thousand hours in volunteer support" to her campaign and send 200 phone bankers, according to Hunt's article.
To defeat Campbell, the feisty soldier in Larry Agran's machine that runs Irvine with an oily, iron fist will need all the help she can get and then a miracle or two.
Republicans hold a massive, 20-plus percentage voter registration advantage in the district and, so far, Campbell hasn't alienated them.
