But Probolsky's results also show potential good news for Hunt, the former sheriff's lieutenant, and Hunter, the deputy chief of Anaheim PD. More than half of the 326 likely voters polled remain undecided with less than two months to go to the June 8 election.
That news should prompt even more heated public debates between Hunt and Hunter, both of whom believe the other isn't qualified to be a good sheriff. Of course, they both agree on Hutchens--a retired Los Angeles County Sheriff's official in retirement when our county's board of supervisors appointed her to complete the remainder of Mike Carona's term after he was arrested by the IRS and FBI on corruption charges. They describe Hutchens as incompetent. She hails herself as an honest agent of reform at the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Probolsky told Santana that Hutchens should take comfort in his poll results: "People just don't care," he said. "They feel safe. And a 2-1 margin is hard to overcome. You need an earthquake to change the landscape."
