Remember last October's arrest of a Los Alamitos man for having 62 pounds of pot and four pounds of hashish in his car after getting pulled over in Nebraska?

The hammer has come down on 50-year-old Gerard Maddox.

The Lincoln Star Journal reports Maddox has been sentenced to five years in state prison.

He was driving a rented 2009 Chrysler 300 on I-80 near Lincoln around 9 a.m. Oct. 4, 2009, when he was pulled over by Nebraska State Patrol for allegedly failing to signal a lane change.

The trooper supposedly smelled cannabis in the Chrysler, which led to a command performance by a police dog, who eventually led his or her fellow troopers to the trunk.

The goodies were wrapped in plastic bags, according to the troops.

Maddox was booked into Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

He pleaded no contest in the Lancaster County courthouse in February to two charges of drug possession with intent to sell, one for the pot, the other for the hash.

Judge Steven Burns on April 22 sentenced Maddox to four to five years in prison on each charge, but the sentences run concurrently, according to the Journal.

Maddox was already on probation for a separate drug charge out of Oklahoma when he was stopped by the Nebraska trooper, the Journal reports.
