Angelique Smith (86) in action with the Southern California Breakers.
Angelique Smith, a women's pro football player from Costa Mesa, has been selected to play for USA Football's 2010 Women's National Team--the country's first--which competes in the inaugural women's world championship this summer in Stockholm, Sweden.

Smith, a 5-9, 181-pound defensive end for the Southern California Breakers of the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL), joins 44 of America's other top female tackle football players on the national team.

Last season, Smith registered 9 sacks for the Breakers, which played its home games in Fullerton, after having been a star student-athlete in basketball, softball and tennis at Proviso West High School in Hillside, Ill.

Currently enrolled in her third year of Sociology studies at Cal State-Fullerton, Smith also works as an administrator with RueVac Property Services in Orange.

Brittany Reinbolt and Amy Satterfield of IWFL's Los Angeles Amazons also made the national squad, which is coached by John Konecki, an Eastern Illinois University alumnus and high school coaching veteran who last year led the IWFL's Chicago Force and its prolific offense

National teams from the U.S., Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany and Sweden compete for the inaugural International Federation of American Football Women's World Championship in Stockholm, from June 27-July 3.
