Dhuyvetter: What did he know about Mater Dei's many pedophiles?

Apologies for sounding like a broken record, but nothing at the Diocese of Orange has changed in regards to its sex-abuse scandal. Bishop Tod D. Brown has just appointed a longtime Mater Dei High administrator to serve as the superintendent of Orange County's Catholic schools, and that's like appointing Barbara Coe to run Latino Health Access.

Mater Dei assistant principal Gregory Dhuyvetter has been at Mater Dei since 1982--from that year until 1996 as a teacher, (which means he was there when principal Michael Harris and colleagues Thomas Hodgman and Robert Richardson were raping kids left and right), and from 1996 until the present, when Jeff Andrade and Larry Stukenholtz carried on the Monarchs' proud teacher-student schtupping tradition, and boys' basketball coach Gary McKnight continued the school's pedo-protecting ways--all under Dhuyvetter's watch.

Dhuyvetter will join another pedo-protector at Marywood--Tracy Brennan. Heckuva job, Brownie!

Just came across this thread over a year after the fact, but I need to stand up for Mr. Dhuyvetter. I don't know what Greg Dhuyvetter knew (if anything) and when he knew it, but I do know I never once saw him speak to either Larry Stukenholtz or Jeff Andrade when I was a student at MDHS in the early 90s which was when they were all teachers there. Different departments seemed to run in different circles, and I believe Dhuyvetter was was also teaching at CSUF at the time too, so I doubt he hung out much to get the gossip, assuming there was any to be gotten at that point. Greg Dhuyvetter was the best teacher I had at Mater Dei by far, in fact, I became an English teacher myself because of him. Yeah, he was probably too sarcastic and honest for some kids, but sharp as a tack and always professional too. I was disappointed to hear he became an administrator just because MD lost its best teacher in the deal. I hate to see these assumptions made about his character. According to your story he became an administrator in 1996, and maybe I have my timeline screwed up, but it doesn't seem like the disgusting pedo-teachers lasted much longer after Dhuyvetter was in charge. Not that I'm giving him credit, but should we really assume he was part of a cover-up? It doesn't seem to me like he ignored or concealed it. I'm not an MD apologist. In fact, I found the school to be way overhyped, (Dhuyvetter was one of a handful of good, qualified teachers I had there), and I would have gotten a better education in the OC public schools, but I don't think it's fair to call Greg Dhuyvetter a "pedo-protector," no matter how tempting the alliteration is. He's bright, effective, and conscientious: perhaps that's why he got the promotion? I know there certainly have been pedo-scandal cover-ups, and they disgust me to my core. I feel horrible for the victims, but I want to say a word for a good man that I think has been erroneously lumped in with a bunch of scumbags. I love The Weekly's brutal honesty and hard-hitting investigations, but this ain't that.
I had Dhuyvetter for English class in 1988. I thought he was a great teacher...but I can see how you might mistake his dry sarcastic humor for being "full of himself". God bless. Matthew 16:18
Dhuyvetter is a A-hole. Just ask anyone who had him for an English class. He is so full of himself. He must be a good brown noser and have holes on his pants knees.
I am sure Greg will be replaced at MD by another current faculty member. Probably someone who is a good brown-noser, "safe", doesn't challenge the system, and is willing to side with the diocese and the administration at the expense of the welfare and best interest of the rest of the faculty. Interestingly, I wonder if they will promote someone like Kitsinis, their current assistant principal for human resources. She was an administrator for years without the proper education. She just finished her MA in education last spring. While not fully educated in education, she is very good about becoming a friend then quickly stabbing people in the back to protect the best interest and image of the diocese and of the administration. Once a monarch, always a monarch. regrettably.
In regards to Salazar... he is living in Northern OC. He is finishing up studies in Psychology at Pepperdine University. (want to guess who paid his way through Pepperdine?). He has been laicized now.
Sadly, as Brown continues to perpetuate abuse in Orange....it's difficult for victims not to strongly question if law enforcement and Catholics are flippping off the victims and kids too. Another generation of kids on their own in an infested "private" institution of perpetrators. It's just Brown and the church's Image is s much more cruicial crisis that exposeing perps and prtecting kids.

Is Tracy Brennan the sister of Mike Brennan, principal of Servite High School? And if so, is there anything fishy about Tracy getting a job with the Diocese of Orange when Fr. Jerry Horan (previous superintendent, former president of Servite High School, and a member of the Servite Order) was the superintendent? Greg D. has been waiting for a promotion like this. He is a very smart man, unfortunately, his people skills and his reputation stink. I wonder who will replace him at MD? Another promotion from within?
It appears that Mr. Dhuyvetter does not hold any type of teaching and/or administrative credential in the State of California pursuant to www.ctc.ca.gov. According to previous court testimony in the Orange County Superior Court, under penalty of perjury, the Diocese of Orange supposedly requires ALL of its teachers to be credentialed in the State of California, within a three year period after commencing employment with the Diocese of Orange. It appears Mr. Dhuyvetter was not held to this teaching standard while teaching and administrating at Mater Dei HS. Maybe former public school administrator from the Anaheim Union HS District and Santa Ana Unified School District, Tracy Brennan, will share her state credential accomplishments with Mr. Dhuyvetter. Business as usual in the rich and infamous Diocese of Orange..... promote employees for life, despite not meeting the employment requirements forced on Whistleblower employees. PARENTS, PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN..... because no one else gives a rip!

What a shame. Greg Dhuyvetter had a million opportunities to do the right thing. But what did he do? Nothing. He watched his students be meticulously destroyed, one by one, while he sat aside and said "it's none of my business." I wonder how he would have felt if I - or Sarah Luckey or Christina Ruiz - were his daughter?

As long as Catholic officials keep promoting those who ignore or conceal child sex crimes, we'll keep seeing child sex crimes and cover ups in Catholic schools, parishes and other institutions. There's just one potential silver lining here. Maybe this egregious injustice will prompt one more victim, witness or whistleblower to find some courage, pick up the phone, call law enforcement, expose another predator, and protect one more child.
