Tustin's Lt. Dan Choi: Obama's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Pledge "Unacceptable"

Army Lieutenant, Westpoint grad, Arabic translator and Tustin native Dan Choi made headlines when he came out as gay on the Rachel Maddow Show--and was then kicked out of the military for doing so. In the time since then, he's been the face of the movement to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy" that effectively bans gays from the military.

So you'd think he'd be psyched that President Obama said during his State of the Union address that he would work in the coming year to repeal that policy.

In a message circulated by Courage Campaign, Choi makes clear that's not the case:

Last night, the President repeated his campaign commitment to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" as part of his State of the Union address. While the President promised that DADT would come to an end "this year," he did not provide specifics -- and the White House still has not released a plan to kill it. That's unacceptable.

The guy may have a point. The Obama administration has said from day one that it wants to end DADT, but even after last night's address, we have no concrete idea when or how it will happen.
