Since When did the OC Register Take Writing Lessons from the Diocese of Orange?

• Pok1mon...Hopefully this blog will trigger dialog relating to the failures committed by Bishop Brown and his high-priced attorneys. For anyone who has not attended a listening session where clergy sex abuse victims share their personal stories of abuse and what it took to speak out, seek justice and healing, I recommend doing so. As Catholic, I am so embarassed each time Bishop Brown, his Diocesan General Counsel and defense attorneys REFUSE to live by the core values in our society, while showing our children how evil politics will continue to destroy families without immediate corrective action. The OC Register publicly revealed the name of a sex abuse victim, without her permission. It appears the defense attorneys in this case will resort to just about anything, with hope that sex abuse victims living in silence, will find it more difficult than ever to seek equal justice. We can only pray that the defense attorneys in this case are held liable for any financial, political, religious and government conflicts of interest.

• Gustavo, I'm not a member of the DoO and I don't agree with the victimization that goes on with innocent children. Brown's methods are definitely questionable. No doubt. And Gustavo, I love your humor and you're sense of knowledge about many subjects. However, you're article can be read by someone and make them think just because one goes to a Catholic Church in Orange County doesn't mean they promote the victimization of innocent children. • Thank you pokimon for your clarification. I guess it is very difficult to watch Bishop Brown and his high priced attorneys deceive the faithful in the pews year after year. As a cradle Catholic, I consider learning about the truths surrounding the clergy sex abuse crisis that erupted in 2002 embarassing and inexcusable. I was naive enough to believe that Bishop Brown understood the need to rid his Diocese of aiders and abettors in the horrific sex crimes against children---but, it is business as usual for Brown and that hurts. It hurts because children are still at risk on a daily basis in the Diocese.... as long as Brown employs the same corrupt attorneys and employees that put their careers before reporting child endangerment to law enforcement, there will be more and more anger developing in Catholic communities. Call it hate or call it feelings of betrayal.... the fact is Brown's Diocese employs MULTIPLE individuals who still have knowledge of failures to report child endangerment, as mandated by law. And, as long as the employees remain silent..... the safety of innocent children and their families will be placed at risk. SHAME ON YOU BISHOP BROWN!! You had a chance to do the right thing and you chose to keep dirty secrets from the public.....

• @truths I think Gustavo attacking Brown and his lawyers are justified and respect his open opinion. I disagree with his approach because it has affects to the people of the DOO and not just a few people. Gustavo has always believed in stopping hate among people by exposing truths, and this article only seems to spread it. Of course that's a matter of opinion, but I think he could express his anger by attacking Brown and those involve as opposed to the entire DOO. Tiger Woods cheated on his wife, and openly, I can bash him for it, but I don't bash all Blacks and Asians for it. That was my point. My point wasn't that he wasn't allowed to spread his Amendment rights through his writings.

• Besides the pretty obvious bias in the Register story, my biggest problem was the bad journalism. Since when does a NEWS story for a daily paper (not a feature or an editorial or a blog entry) run by only citing another news story and some court documents? Not only did the reporter not talk to the victim or her lawyer, but he didn't even bother to pick up the phone to talk to local or national experts in the field of the sexual abuse of teens in the workplace ... or local advocates for sex abuse victims ... or a therapist who works with victims ... or even the perp's lawyer. For many people, the Register is their only source of news, and this kind of story is DEVASTATING to victims of sexual abuse. It blames Kati Moore without even a complete evaluation of all of the facts and resources available. It's just bad, bad journalism. It's just a shame that it had to come from the City Editor. There are so many other talented OC Register writers ...

• Dear Pokimon...... the OC Weekly provides opportunity for its readers to express their opinions in matters of public interest--which is your right to speak out. Sadly, if it weren't for Gustavo and the OC Weekly, I suspect that the Diocese of Orange's attorneys and Bishop Tod Brown himself, would continue to violate the privacy of individuals seeking justice, in the interests of their self-serving financial objectives. THANK YOU GUSTAVO! There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that NOTHING HAS CHANGED in the Diocese of Orange since Bishop Brown's expensive public relations Covenant With the Faithful and the spending of over $107 million to settle sex abuse lawsuits involving crimes that destroyed the lives of children and families for decades. My message to Bishop Brown and attorneys negligently advising Brown how to avoid justice in a court of law: TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS! Children are at risk...... Doesn't anyone in the Diocese care?

• Gustavo, I applaud your concerns for the victims in the mess. It's a shame that media outlets care more about money than the people. I enjoy your humor very much, however, I do think that you should stop hating on the Catholic Diocese of Orange. There are huge AMOUNT of good people who are a part of the Diocese, and not all are rapists. And not all priests are rapists. Your anger sends volumes to the public community and only generates hate. Something I believe you fight to stop. You can not like those who commit crimes, but don't hate the entire group. A mexican person can commit rape, doesn't mean people should hate all mexicans. I understand you may not directly attack the Diocese, however, many readers will mistaken it as that.
