Americans United for the Separation of Church and State is sponsoring the event--which, among other things, will address the extent to which Mormons were involved in the campaign for Proposition 8 (the conventional wisdom is that Mormons were crucial to the law's passage). The members of the Orange County Equality Coalition--recently profiled in the Weekly as the poster organization for the new gay rights movement--have promoting Saturday's talk, too. And with the federal challenge to the Prop. 8 being heard in a courtroom this very second, it's likely the conversation won't stray all that far away from the issue of gay marriage.
Perennial Orange County sacrificial Democratic candidate Steve Young will represent the "progressive" Mormons in the discussion, while trial lawyer Bill Bollard will be the "conservative."
It's going down at the Irvine Ranch Water District (15600 Sand Canyon Ave) from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16. Bring your brass knuckles.
