Galiher: TBN miracle worker who turned wine into a double DUI...dig those frosted, rumpled locks!

When those poor, desperate souls that make up Trinity Broadcasting Corporation's primary audience dial up Paul and Jan Crouch during the Praise-a-Thon and pledge thousands of dollars, I'm sure they never imagined their life savings would go toward the defense of a TBN pastor's drunk-driving case. Yet that is what will happen at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach this Friday, when Stephen Eugene Galiher hears his fate.

Galiher, of course, was the demon who pleaded guilty to two counts of driving under the influence when he plowed into a 70-year-old man on the 73 Freeway after getting soused at the Island Hotel (the man went on to pass away from his injuries). TBN workers get only the best (Galiher drove a company-owned BMW at the time of his DUI), so you can bet whatever attorney argues on his behalf this week for a lenient sentence will be big pimpin'! Galiher, and the rest of his Home Bunch, ran a Youth Camp, in Illinois, I attended as a teen. Along with Rev.Leon Belt,Rev. Johnnie Sloan.I don't think none of these Preachers,or their kids, new what "work" was.They just thrived off the peoples money,living better, than alot of the Families that gave.Spoiled Brats. I remember, one Pastor's wife,getting"busted" for drugs,in Missouri. This whole Illinois group,(Galihers,Belts,etc.)wouldn't allow her on their campgrounds.Wonder, what their opinion is now ? As my wife and I just got home we thought we would make a note before going to bed about the sad tragedy of this case. You are right "Upper Cut" Jim Gilles has not changed over the years, for I have known him many years now. As for Pastor C., I don't know for I have not seen him for 20 years when at GC youthcamp and also I was at his Church in the early 80's. As for JWS and wife a picture say's a thousand words and they are not what they used to be. JWS preached on "THE POOR DEVIL" at FGBI in the mid 80's. What a message because JWS was right the devil is poor. My wife grew up at youth camp at GC under their teaching's and I will tell you one thing My wife of 25 years has never changed and is a solid woman of God! MY WIFE is a woman of strong faith that never waiver's. My wife and I RAISED our son under those same "OLD PATHS" teaching and now he and his wife are doing the same thing for their two small boy's. Compromising has always caused confusion and when we got married we were determined to hold onto not only what we have been taught but it is holding unto the truth of God's unchanging WORD! As for all the unbeliever's writing I personally apologize for all the mess in the Church world. When Apostle Peter took his eye's off of Jesus, he took his eye's off of the WORD which is the knowledge and power we need to defeat satan. When Church people and especially Preacher's do this it will cause not only them problems but also everyone around them problems too. It will also cause all the honest one's in the Church to be looked upon in a bad manner. ALL I asked you to do is for your own sake and the sake of Christ don't lose faith in God or the Church because Jesus is still coming after a clean-white Church. You must be saved and in the Church to go with Christ. Apostle Paul said unless you abide in the ship you cannot be saved!!! So for your own salvation do not look at the hypocrite that will be left behind, look at Jesus!!! The Bible say's only a "FEW" will go! Please be apart of the "FEW"!!! As for my old friend, Steve Galiher we must uphold him and his family in prayer. What happened to him you ask--He took his eye's off of the "WORD-JESUS CHRIST", the only power he had to defeat sin and the devil! Was he wrong? Oh yes he was wrong and a lot of people got hurt along the way. Healing and forgiveness only begins with Christ. I have not seen Steve in 20 years but I sure wish he would call me here in Florida where I now Pastor. I do not uphold and approve of all the bad Steve has done but my wife and I will always extend a hand of friendship out to Steve and family. Steve Galiher comes from a solid Christian background and his Dad and Mom are people of God who we know personally. The choice was his not their's, for we all have to make up our own mind for the way we will go. DS was right God is Holy and any Holiness we have is only because of God but that never changes the fact that GOD IS HOLY and we must live a life of Holiness pleasing to God. I never live it to please man or my Pastor who passed away but I live a consistant life to please God. The fact that the "Holiness movement" or as JWS put it "YOUR holiness movement" has a few self-righteous,reprobate preachers in it does not change the fact that "HOLINESS IS STILL RIGHT" ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD!!! I will tell you one thing though JWS is NOT to blame for this mess at TBN, because even I have been put to the test whether I would change or not and I refused only with and through the Grace of God. As for the family and this man who died, we must if we have any compassion at all pray for the family. For not only healing the sorrow but forgiveness as well. Pastor Steve & Lisa my heart goes out to you. Jesus said, "those without sin cast the first stone". I pray God will restore what the devil has tried to steal. Johnny Wade and Dianne are sell-outs! So is Steve Galiher! I heard them all preach in the 80's and they would have been considered 'radical, religious right wingers'. Sloane preached on "The Plumb Line" at Granite City Campmeeting. He hit everything that moved that night! My question is this: (Since they have changed their tune over the years) If their message was wrong then, how can I trust them to be right now? Nearly a year to the day after Stephen Eugene Galiher crashed into a car on the 73 Freeway while driving over 85 miles per hour three times over the legal drinking limit on his way to the Costa Mesa headquarters of the Trinity Broadcasting Company that employed him�nearly a year to the day after the wreck severely injured Vietnam War veteran David Rhodes and left him in such a diminished physical state that he passed away six months later�nearly a year to that day, Galiher was finally sentenced by an Orange County judge for his crime. The time? Five years probation, pay restitution, and stay away from alcohol during the duration of the probation. Who says you can�t drive blitzed, destroy a family, and get away with it in tough-on-crime OC? Galiher�wearing a natty pinstriped blue suit, ankle-high shoes, trendy glasses, with sunglasses in his left breast jacket pocket but not the blond streaks that once decorated his hair or goatee he once sculpted on his face�walked into a Harbor Justice Center courtroom at 1:30 this afternoon flanked by two attorneys. The family of Rhodes�his wife, who survived the crash but is still undergoing physical therapy, and son Tom�followed, sitting on the other side of the courtroom, accompanied by senior deputy district attorney Dan Hess. After about 20 minutes in the judge�s chambers, the attorneys for the both sides emerged, and Commissioner James Odriozola ordered court in session. Both Rhodes� wife, Julicort, and his son Tom addressed the court. Fighting back tears, Julicort told Commissioner Odriozola how she and her husband were planning to �make our dreams together� but that her life and that of their young children was now �shattered into pieces.� Tom Rhodes began his remarks by holding out graphic pictures of his bedridden father�who suffered four broken ribs, a broken arm and leg, and had to get pins put in his vertebrae�so that Galiher could see the damage he had wrought. Standing behind a lectern that he repositioned so he could directly address Galiher, Rhodes also read a letter by his cancer-stricken sister, who was too ill to appear. He spared Galiher nothing, mocking his former standing as one of TBN�s stars, the head pastor at the world�s largest televangelical network�s Music City theme park just outside Nashville. �Would Jesus have gotten obliteratedly drunk?� Rhodes trembled, choking back tears. �Would Jesus have stayed in the car and not help the people he crashed into?� Galiher looked on silently and occasionally sniffling. �You discredited your employer, and disgraced the tenets of Christianity,� Rhodes concluded. �As a Christian, I pray that the Lord show you mercy, but I pray that the state of California does not.� After Tom left the lecturn, Galiher turned to the Rhodes family to say he was �deeply remorseful and extremely sorry.� He only spoke about two minutes. A visibly moved Odriozola called for a recess and then rendered his verdict: his hands were bound by the law. Galiher had pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and causing injury and DUI over .08 BAC causing injury, both felonies. Though the maximum penalty for the crime was three years in state prison, the OC DA�s office had only asked the judge to sentence Galiher to four more months of house confinement and five years probation. Hess told Odriozola that the DA�s office had looked into trying Galiher on vehicular manslaughter charges, but couldn�t establish enough evidence to make a plausible case (Rhodes� official cause of death was acute respiratory failure brought on by pneumonia, but the 70-year-old had led an active lifestyle swimming and playing tennis just before his car accident). Galiher had already spent 90 days in a alcoholism clinic and four months under house arrest at his Tennessee home before facing any sentence. The fact that Galiher expressed remorse and completed his alcoholism program and house arrest without incident convinced Odriozola to reject Hess� request for more jail time for Galiher. �If I wanted to give you more time,� Odriozola told Galiher, �I�m constrained by the law not to.� The commissioner did force Galiher to see the pictures of a maimed Tom Rhodes one last time, to remind him of the horrors he had caused to the Rhodes family, horrors from which he escaped any prison at all. Galiher left the courtroom, the same smirk on his face that you see above frozen in relief.

JC, You are correct, preachers are merely men. But Steve Galiher stood on the pulpit preaching the immoralities of the world, was a preacher for many years, and he judged people on a daily basis. So that is why we are judging him. Don't you people see the absolute irony??? He needed to practice what he preached.... Congratulations. That was one of the most juvenile, self-indulgent displays of stupidity that I have ever seen out of ministers of the gospel. You put on the gloves, took jabs at one another, while dancing around on the hearts of hurting people who didn't ask for this heartache. These grieving people are faithful people of God like Steve's parents, his sister and brother and their families...the list goes on and on. Sad. So very sad.
Hello Jim, I believe it very fair and necessary to ones intergrity to say openly what you have previously saids behind peoples backs. Invest as much time and energy as you would like preaching to the choir. My rebuke is founded on the facts that God is the Judge and I don't think the trinity has expanded to include you. We all will stand before God and give account of the deeds done in this mortal body. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? Do the people you preach for know that when you become acquainted with someone and disagree with them you stand back and watch to see if they will fail. And if they do, you glory in their failure and hope for severe judgment and are elated to spread whatever you think to expose a brothers sin. ( It must be nice to have none of your own to confess) . Did you get saved before the Charismatic Church, during attending the Charismatic Church or after leaving the Charismatic Church? Dear Jim Gilles and Brother Bill, This blog was supposedly all about Steve Galiher, yet you have blamed me for failure. Even though I have not seen or talked to him in over 15 years... strange. I am grieved at preachers, like yourselves, that gloat and delight in the problems other people have had in life or ministry. I think this is a shame to the name of Christ, ministry of reconciliation, and God of grace and mercy. We are all blessed you will be kneeling before the throne, like the rest of us, not judging, You have stated several out-right inaccurate and wrong things here. You do not need to be discreet, just because you have libeled. I am not going to pursue you legally, but I will puruse you relationally as a brother in Christ... an "Elder Brother who needs to grow up and accept the prodigals. I enjoy a "friendly" debate and find truth can be picked up turned in the light and examined. If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works? You are not only obligated to expose evil men that commit sinful acts upon others, God expects you to do so. If you don't and someone out there gets damaged or even loses their soul because they weren't warned in your sphere of influence, then their blood may be on your hands. Hello Johnny Wade & Dianne Sloan. I was trying to use some decorum and be somewhat discreet in not providing the name of the reprobate preacher. After you read the following please let me know if you think that it would be appropriate or if it would be, in the same title words of a pamphlet that this preacher once wrote�Out of Bounds. Steve Galiher worked for this same preacher, (pastor), as youth pastor, I believe, shortly after Steve left Bible College. This same pastor�s church hosted an annual youth camp. During the last two years, (1986 & 1987 I believe), that this preacher resided as pastor of the church and youth camp, the pastor had me preach the day services of the youth camp. During both years I blasted the entire �Christian rock and roll� scene. I named such groups as Mylon Lefever, Rick Cua, Servant, Amy Grant, Stryper and Petra, to name a few. In 1986, I told the youth campers, to their disbelief, that Petra had just signed John Schlitt from the old rock band �Head East� to be their new lead singer. This same pastor asked me to preach a Sunday night service two days after Steve Galiher and I preached a youth camp together. Twenty minutes before the Sunday night service was to start, this pastor took me aside privately and told me, �Jim, do not touch �Christian rock and roll� tonight.� �Your joking,� I asked. �Oh no, I am dead serious,� he stated. �If you even mention it tonight I will personally yank you off the platform right in the middle of your message.� He ended by assuring me with, �Next time that you preach here you can preach anything that you want.� I immediately determined that there would never be a next time. During the song service, the pastor leaned over and whispered to me, �Do you see my youth group?� I thought, what youth group? I see five and two are your sons. The pastor continued, �My youth group are gone, they are shot, they need help and I believe that you are just the one that can help them.� I have never come so close to standing up and rebuking a pastor right in the middle of a church service as right then and there. I wanted to say, �You big, compromised, hypocrite, phony hireling. You just muzzled my mouth at one of the main causes of youth rebellion and now you admit that your youth are totally gone and you want me to �help� them? After the service, the pastor and his wife drove me to a restaurant for fellowship. During the drive, the pastor hands me an envelope. I start to put it inside of my coat pocket when the pastor tells me to open it right then. I open the envelope and find a sizable check inside. The pastor says to me, �And there is more where that came from, Jim, I want you to be my youth pastor.� I thought, no, you want me to be your paid bidding boy in order to try and placate teen ager�s consciences while they live in total rebellion. I told the pastor that I was not called to be a youth pastor. That night, I stayed at the pastor�s house. I was shocked to find the pastor�s oldest son�s room plastered with various �Christian rock & roll� posters. Now, Johnny Wade & Dianne, do you think that I would be �Out of Bounds� if I mentioned this pastor�s name?
Hello Johnny Wade and Dianne Sloan, I was trying to be somewhat discreet in not naming the reprobate preacher who was the main instrument that Satan used as the original catalyst in Steve Galiher's demise. After you two read the following please tell me if you think that I should put a name with it. I will completely trust your judgment on this. Steve Galiher worked for this preacher at a church. Before this preacher left this church, this preacher had me preach the day services of his youth camp. I preached the last two years of youth camps before this preacher left the church. This was about 1986 & 1987. During these two youth camps that I preached for this preacher, I blasted the entire "christian rock and roll" scene. I named such groups as Mylon Lefever, Rick Cua, Servant, Amy Grant, Styper and Petra. I even told the youth campers in 1986, to their disbelief, that Petra had just signed up John Schlitt, from Head East, as their new lead singer. I personally knew this as John Schlitt was out of my old charasmatic home church. This preacher switched churches and asked me to preach a Sunday night service for him in 1988. This Sunday night service was two days after Steve Galiher and I had preached a youth camp together. About twenty minutes before the Sunday night service started, this preacher took me aside into a private room and commanded, "Jim, do not touch christian rock and roll." I jokingly responded with, "your joking, right?" This preacher said, "oh no, I am dead serious, if you even mention christian rock and roll I will personally physically remove you from the platform right in the middle of your message. I retorted, "but you heard me blast it for the last two years at your old youth camp." This preacher came back with, "yes, but that was _______ but this is ______. That answer from him told me that to him there were no moral absolutes but that all was relative based upon who was padding your pocket at any one given moment. This preacher told me that when I came back the next time that I could preach anything that I wanted to. I told myself that there would not be a next time. During the song service, as I was seated next to this preacher, this preacher noticed that I was looking over his congregation. This preacher leaned over to me and wispered, "do you see my youth group?" I thought to myself, what youth group? All I saw was five youth and two were the preacher's boys. This preacher continued to say, "my youth are shot, they are gone, they need help and I think that you are just the one that can help them." I never came as close to standing up and rebuking a pastor in the the middle of a church service as right then and there. I wanted to blast this compromising, liberal hypocrite for admitting that his youth were "gone" and then for intentionally muzzeling my mouth of real help for them. After the service, this preacher and his wife drove me to a restaurant for fellowship. While driving to the restaurant, this preacher hands me a sealed envelope. I start to put the envelope into my coat pocket when this preacher says, "go ahead and open it now." I open the envelope and find a sizable offering. This preacher says, "and there is more where that came from, Jim, I want you to be my youth pastor." I thought, yeah right, you mean that you want me to be your paid bidding boy in order to placate your youths consciences while they continue in their sinful rebellion. I politely told this preacher that I was not called to be a youth pastor. After eating at the restaurant, this preacher had me stay the night in his house. I was shocked when I walked into his oldest son's bedroom and saw his walls plastered with Stryper, Petra, and various other "christian rock and roll" posters. Now Johnny Wade and Dianne Sloan, in your honest opinion, do you really think that I should tell all who this preacher was? I will do what you say in this matter. Jim Gilles
It's funny how when someone is doing well we all like to say we know them and that they are our friend. When someone falls we are supposed to pick them up. Christians are the only ones who kill thier wounded. Didn't some of the most used men of God fail at some point. King David sinned by killing a man so he could have his wife. Solomon had many wives and became an idolater. Moses disobeyed God. Peter denied the Lord. Yet all these asked for forgivness and are with the Lord today. We all make mistakes they just aren't published on the internet because were not famous. If all of us listed our transgressions would people see us the same or condemn us too. No sin is any better than another. So judge not lest you be judged. Remember the same judgemet you dish out will be how you are judged. Were praying for you and your family. Remember he came to seek and save the lost.

If you have clear thinking perhaps you should ask God for mercy as without Jesus and His sacrifice we will all burn in hell. No body deserves to be saved on their own merits. Only God is holy and any holiness we claim is His. Man up guys. Communicating the Gospel is an awesome responsibility. Don't forget , we are not in Heaven yet.

I have known Steve my entire life. I was a member of the church where he grew up. I have never meet one single person who hasn't ever made a bad choice in their life. And I have certainly never meet a saint. You can sit on a church pew for 50 years every Sunday or be a decon or a teacher and that does not make you a perfect christian nor does it give any of you the right to be so malice and hurtful with your words. I recognize some of you and I am ashamed of the position that you have taken on this issue. Where is your compassion and concern for your fellow man who has lost his way? Someone who needs the support and kindness of the church family to find his way back. Steve has made an unfortunate and irreversible decision in his life, something he can never take back or change. He will live with his choice and its fallout for the rest of his life, but he can be forgiven. Forgiveness is not by mans hand but by Gods. That is something you all might want to consider before you speak. I'm quite sure not one person on this site is without sin..... Sin is sin according to the Bible. The one thing I know for sure is you don't tell Satan how far you will go, he tells you. And he will destroy your life without a second thought, he will use others to do so. I no longer attend church, and let me tell you all why. I was 17 years old when I realized the damage that can be inflicted with words. I was involved with all the local youth camps, I attended a private school and music was my ministry and spiritual passion in church. One bad choice brought all of that to an end. I was 17 when I became pregnant and got married to a man that was not part of the "in group" and from that very moment I was rejected by the very people who had in earlier years called themselves my church family. The very people that claimed to be Christians.The people I had befriended and grown up with were the first ones to turn their back on me. Their were phone calls made by these people to other states to relay my "fall from grace" as it was so described. I never recovered from my choices or the actions of others. I completely lost faith in God and myself. I haven't been in the doors of church in years. That has been another one of my choices, some of those choices I regret and some I wouldn't change. I accept full responsibility for the choices in my life. They are behind me now and I have moved on with my life without christianity as a part of it. Please take note that what goes around also comes around. The people who chose to talk about my bad choices, have all endured both physical and spiritual issues in their own lives. Some were fixable and some were not. Please use common sense in what you say or write, the devastating effect your word can have on someone can be irreversible and damaging and in some cases even be fatal to their spirit. Also please remember that words can never be erased or taken back once they have been spoken. Steve, My thoughts are with you as you endure this trial in your life. Please know that although I do not attend church nor profess to be a "christian" I will be praying for you just the same. God is a loving and forgiving God and he will not forsake you. Please do not allow others to define your life or your salvation.
Bethal Chapel: Who are u? If U R a Christian let me remind U that name calling does not become a follower of Christ. I know TBN has it's problems, even so we had and have our problems with them. Name calling solves nothing and only lowers U to the level of the world. Consider this a rebuke to a brother or sister and in the spirit of love.
We knew Steve Galiher was in deep trouble when he hooked up with the pimps at TBN.
My wife and I knew Steve very well from about 2000 to about 2004 as we attended the church in Hendersonville. He was a gifted prophet and a caring individual. A few years ago I saw him out drunk in public and tried to alert TBN of the problem (to no avail). If anyone is to blame here it is TBN for not taking care of this and getting Steve help when he needed it. It is a sad state of affairs when the very Church that preaches God's grace condemns Steve as a drunkard and murderer. Have we so easily forgotten who we once were before receiving the grace of God through Jesus Christ? Ironically, in the final analysis, I believe it is not God, but inevitably each one of us who condemns ourselves. It is because either we judge others without first judging ourselves (the majority of the commentators here) or we judge ourselves more harshly than we ought (I think Steve is in this category) and fall. God wants each of us to love ourselves and others unconditionally because we are all in the same boat. Let's not forget that lest we be the next one to fall.
I am late in finding out about Steve Galiher and what has transpired. As I read the comments by people who claim to know God, I feel even more sad. It is not that "a man" falling from grace is so unusual, but it is the remarks of the so-called Church that is so appalling here on this blog. Of course, Steve Galiher, fell; he harmed people; and he will no doubt pay his dues (in many ways). In his defense, I can honestly say I knew the man. He had a heart of gold and an amazing prophetic gift. I have known for some time that he had a drinking problem, so did I. Each one of us is accountable to the Lord and none of us has the right to judge another without walking in his shoes. It is the Lord and the people of the state of California who will judge him. I have no doubt that if Steve goes to prison, he will be used mightily by God as a testimony from a man who fell and who was forgiven, even before the foundation of the world. As for Steve and the family that was harmed, I know the Lord has them in the palm of His hands, but I'm not so sure about the people making these horrid accusations and comments on this blog. Anyone who rejoices when someone falls is usually guilty themselves. Some call this "projection" as it takes the light off them and places it on someone else. Dear Gail, Our dear drunken Pastor Steve Galiher was put on house arrest in Nashville until his sentencing. It was supposed to happen in Dec. but has been put off until Jan. Speculation is that the county will bring new charges of manslaughter. Stay tuned for more of Galiher's drunken, murderous dirt....

See here is the deal: This guy is/was a preacher, working for a MAJOR religious organization, TBN, standing up preaching to the masses of all the "immoralities" in the world.....yet he was doing them. So, if this isn't the pot calling the tea kettle black, then I don't know what is. It just seals the deal for me on these "religious" right wing crackpots on TV, they are all money hungry, phony people. He killed a man! A Vietnam Veteran who survived a horrible war, and then to be "indirectly" killed at 70 years old by a bible toting drunk, homosexual, preacher. I feel bad for the families involved.
