Mike Lupica's Million Dollar Thousand Dollar Free Publicity Throw
The amount of money one of 200 real-life kids ages 8-15 can win if their name is drawn after they make a perfect pass during Lupica's appearance Wednesday at Mission Viejo Library: $1,000.
The amont of free publicity Lupica and his book have gotten and will get from the publicity stunt: priceless.
Whale of a Tale Children's Bookshoppe in Irvine sponsors the 6 p.m. event at the library, 100 Civice Center, Mission Viejo. Lupica is scheduled to talk about and sign copies of his book and present an oversized check to the best hurler.
Passers need not purchase anything to compete. Tickets, which are limited to one per person, will be distributed to 200 participants about an hour before the contest starts. Contestants must be legal residents of the U.S. and bring a school ID.
All those who hit a target will have their names entered in a random drawing. The winner of that gets the bucks. If no one hits the target, everyone who participated will have their names added to the drawing. A parent or guardian must accompany contestants at the drawing.
Jeez, it would have been easier to write a novel.
