Birther Smackdown: Orly Taitz Faces Judgment In Georgia

​As we blogged yesterday, OC dentist and lawyer Orly Taitz was heard in court on Monday in Georgia, arguing that an army surgeon should not have to deploy to Iraq because Barack Obama isn't actually eligible to be president.

Today, federal district judge Clay Lands issued his judgement. For Taitz, it wasn't pretty.

Lands dismissed Capt. Connie Rhodes' claim as "frivolous" and then went on to point out what many Orly watchers see as the central hypocrisy of the "birther" movement:

Finally, in a remarkable shifting of the traditional legal burden of proof, Plaintiff unashamedly alleges that Defendant has the burden to prove his "natural born" status. Thus, Plaintiff's counsel, who champions herself as a defender of liberty and freedom, seeks to use the power of the judiciary to compel a citizen, albeit the President of the United States, to "prove his innocence" to "charges" that are based upon conjecture and speculation.  Any middle school civics student would readily recognize the irony of abandoning fundamental principles upon which our Country was founded in order to purportedly "protect and preserve" those very principles.

The judge also compares Taitz's claims to Alice in Wonderland and warns her that there would be consequences to filing any more "birther" claims in his court. Read the entire thing here.
