Woody Allen's 1972 eccentric adaptation of the book that was under
every teenager's bed and in every parent's dresser drawer takes a comical look at the science of
love. Several quirky skits follow the book's segments: Our favorite is
the "What Happens During Ejaculation?" bit, in which a man's body is
viewed as a complex factory. Burt Reynolds running the brain as Mission
Control. Woody Allen as a reluctant, fidgety sperm. And everything's
laced with that delightfully campy '70s kitsch.
Santa Ana's Discovery Science Center's newest exhibit, "Robots and Us," aims to teach children about technical
realities along with the mechanics of robots from science fiction--and
begs the important existential questions: Could a machine ever be
alive? Should we give machines the capability to experience emotions?
And aren't we humans just a different kind of machine? Educate your
children--before it's too late.
