Moderate Earthquake Strikes LA, OC

Crashing Plates
At 8:39 p.m., an estimated 5.0 magnitude earthquake centered in the Hawthorne/Inglewood area rocked Los Angeles and Orange County, according to me, my neighbors and Caltech.

In Santa Ana, the quake felt like it lasted about 15 seconds and seemed determined to topple a bookcase.

LA news outlets are wrongly reporting that only LA residents felt the shaking.

No doubt that Rev. Wiley Drake of Buena Park will blame the plate tectonics on the Long Beach gay pride festival that's underway in the region. But Drake could also blame two other May 17 deeds: the 55th anniversary of the unanimous Supreme Court decision against segregation or the opening of the televised Watergate/Nixon corruption hearings in 1974.
